Széchenyi István University (SZE) is located in Győr, a prosperous city in north-west Hungary, situated midway between the capitals of Hungary, Austria and Slovakia. As a dynamically developing HEI with nearly 14,000 students, since 2016 the University has seen a rapid rise in the number of international students, now representing 70 nations. With a total number of approximately 200 study programmes at all academic levels, within the 9 Faculties and 4 Doctoral Schools, the University offers a choice of over 40 English-taught programmes with STEM subjects and Business & Economics disciplines dominating. Applicants who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref: 534202) need not re-apply. The Department of Sociology was founded in 1967 as the first sociology department in Hong Kong. It is based within the Faculty of Social Sciences and encompasses sociology, demography, criminology, and anthropology, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to the study of social issues anywhere in the world. The Department has strong traditions in qualitative research, particularly ethnographic and participatory methods, and has expanded its expertise in quantitative research, social statistics and demography. The 2026 QS World University Ranking rated the Department the 24th among the world’s top 200 universities in the subject of sociology. The Department offers a range of innovative and engaging taught programmes, including undergraduate major/minor programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media & Cultural Studies. In addition to research postgraduate degrees, it also offers three taught postgraduate programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media, Culture and Creative Cities. Its faculty, research postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows, are actively engaged in cutting-edge research and excel in producing excellent scholarly research in the social sciences. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology or a related field, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and academic leadership. Those who are specialised in cybercrime and/or digital harm, with a research background on issues such as surveillance, digital victimology, misinformation, artificial intelligence and crime, and financial crimes (such as online fraud and money laundering) are particularly welcome. A solid research track record in complementing digital methods with theory-driven and empirically grounded work on these topics is an advantage. The appointee is expected to publish research, teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise students at graduate and undergraduate levels, and take on service/administrative responsibilities. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At the current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of the basic salary. The Student Integrity team administers policies and legislation in relation to appeals, academic integrity, and student conduct, managing complex and sensitive student matters, including conduct involving allegations of gender-based violence. The Deputy Manager, Student Conduct and Appeals, supports the operational delivery of services across these areas, working closely with the Manager to ensure effective, consistent, and trauma-informed processes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: experience in policy, legal compliance, investigations, complaint-handling and appeals management. Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation and policy frameworks in day-to-day operations and casework. Proven ability to lead and develop teams, fostering a culture of service excellence, accountability and continuous improvement. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and support the resolution of sensitive matters. A commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices when managing (mis)conduct and complex behavioural issues. Experience in case handling of gender-based violence matters, including contributing to risk assessment, management and ongoing monitoring. A sound understanding of the impacts of vicarious trauma, with a proactive approach to supporting staff wellbeing through regular engagement and early intervention. The role This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Australasia's leading medical schools as a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
