Assistant Professor (Ref: 2600228) Department of Cultural and Creative Arts Faculty of Humanities As a distinguished arts education provider in the region, the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts is dedicated to fostering a creative and dynamic learning environment in Music, the Visual Arts, and other art-related disciplines, while simultaneously promoting high standards of professionalism in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer. Our aim is to nurture innovative educators, artists, enterprising community-based arts practitioners, creative thinkers, and cultural leaders, equipping them with the necessary levels of competence, compassion, and artistic excellence to thrive in the 21st Century. The Department is now accepting applications for the post of Assistant Professor in the areas of music technology/engineering, music industry, popular music/jazz, electroacoustic music, and music education. Candidates should possess a relevant doctoral degree. They should be active researchers with a strong track record in research and teaching, be able to continue conducting research that attracts competitive external funding and leads to publications in top-tier international journals and conferences. They should be fluent in English, and the ability to speak Putonghua is a plus. The appointee will participate in activities related to teaching, research, knowledge transfer and community service. The appointee will be responsible for applying for research and project funding, generating high-quality research and/or creative output, and contributing to curriculum/programme development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels while partaking in departmental activities and management. The appointee may be required to travel outside of Hong Kong and undertake work including teaching duties as assigned by the University, where necessary. Job Description LIFE SCIENCE IMAGING CENTER Research Assistant (25260649) The research assistant is expected to contribute/support cognitive neuroscience research on interdisciplinary projects, duties include literature review, data collection, data analysis and drafting manuscript. The appointee is expected to work with researchers at Life Science Imaging Center (LSIC). LSIC is a central research facility (https://lsic.hkbu.edu.hk/) built to support and promote cutting-edge neurocognitive studies across disciplines at HKBU. LSIC is equipped with a high-performance 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system that enables researchers to explore the structure and function of human brain. A high-performing computing server has been set up to support MRI data analysis.  Responsibilities: Manage MRI slot booking and the subject booking system, do data preprocessing, help with task programming, and manage devices (EEG/TMS/biopac/eyetracking/fNIRS); Help with administrative duties, such as organising workshops, inviting speakers, reimbursement; and Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in sciences or other related disciplines (e.g., Psychology, neuroscience);  Good analytical, communication and interpersonal skills; Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (good command of Cantonese is preferred); and Experience with some neuroscience-related equipment (EEG/TMS/biopac/eyetracking/fNIRS) is preferable. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of 12 months commencing as soon as possible. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry funded research project where you will be part of the research team to develop advanced Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) scanning technologies. Job Responsibilities Participate in research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Undertake these responsibilities in the project:  i. Conduct comprehensive literature review on NQR technology, including design approaches, scanning methods, signal processing techniques, and comparison with alternative detection technologies. ii. Support design and development of NQR prototype, including system architecture, component selection, and experimental setup. iii. Conduct lab and site tests to evaluate the performance of NQR prototype. iv. Generate design documents and test documents at every stage of development until the final prototype. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.  Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Has a bachelor’s degree in Electronics; Specialization in RF/Microwave or Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is preferred. Has solid knowledge of electronics, including circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware troubleshooting. Has relevant competence in the areas of Radio Frequency design and measurement; Familiarity with high-power amplifier systems is a plus. Has relevant experience in the areas of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) design and implementation is a plus. Experience in electromagnetic simulation using CST Studio Suite and circuit simulation with PSpice, LTspice, or equivalent is an advantage. Experience with developing software for instrument control and data acquisition using LabVIEW is helpful. Key Competencies Strong experimental skills and theoretical knowledge in electronic circuits, and RF or DSP design, with the ability to apply hands-on prototyping and system development. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is a UK Cancer Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered unit and was set up in 2006 to design and conduct academically led clinical trials. The Unit employs trial managers, data managers, statisticians, regulatory staff and administrative support staff. We manage a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.
