Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals by creating innovative, nutritious, and visually appealing food products that cater to their specific dietary needs. Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join our team for a fixed-term project. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and validating objective texture testing methods that can accurately categorize foods within the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework, with a specific focus on Level 5 (Minced & Moist). This role will involve designing custom test fixtures, conducting practical laboratory work, and performing data analysis to create a robust and reliable testing protocol. Key Responsbilities: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on food rheology, texture analysis, particle analysis, image analysis and the IDDSI framework. Design and execute experiments to develop new instrumental texture analysis methods suitable for IDDSI Level 5 foods. Validate new methods against existing standards and a sensory panel to ensure accuracy and clinical relevance. Collect, analyze, and interpret data from instrumental and sensory evaluations. Document all experimental procedures, findings, and analyses in technical reports and prepare presentations to industry stakeholders and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with a research team, including food scientists, clinicians, and engineers, to ensure the developed methods are practical and clinically relevant. Job Requirements: A degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. in a related research field is advantageous. Experience with instrumental texture, image analysis and particle sizing techniques (e.g., texture analyzers, universal testing machines) is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in material characterization techniques, such as stress-strain characterization. Proficiency in analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, R, or other statistical software). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated commitment to strong research ethics and data integrity

The Role and Department The Development and Alumni Relations Office is responsible for co-ordinating philanthropy, alumni and supporter engagement, advancement services, and supporter communications on behalf of the University. DARO works with colleges, academic departments, research centres and institutes, wider student experience partners, and professional departments to engage over 200,000 alumni and supporters around the world. We contribute to the enhancement of Durham University's reputation as globally outstanding, inclusive, and forward-looking. The Development Team within DARO is ultimately responsible for: soliciting donations from alumni, philanthropists, corporations, trusts and foundations and other charitable bodies; stewarding donors through reports, presentations, events and face-to-face meetings; meeting with gift beneficiaries to collate and produce gift impact reporting materials; hosting and devising engagement opportunities for existing and prospective benefactors on campus; and managing relationships with high-level stakeholders on behalf of the University. Senior Development Managers are primarily responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding principal/major donations of £100K - £1M+. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of some of the University's most senior benefactors and advocates, working closely with senior colleagues across the University but with a particular focus on our colleges and wider student experience activity. The Senior Development Manager will play a critical role in the delivery of Durham's bicentenary Campaign. The Campaign is a major philanthropic initiative centred on the University's 200th anniversary in 2032, seeking to create a step-change in philanthropic giving to Durham. The post-holder must be versatile and able to work closely and with senior alumni, University leaders, prominent and public figures, the trustees of regional, national and global funding bodies, major benefactors and advocates, in multiple capacities which facilitate the development of principal/major donations and the advancement of Durham University. The SIT Centre for Intelligent Robotics (CIR) is an applied research centre responsible for developing and maintaining core applied robotics and embodied AI capabilities for real-world deployment. CIR is seeking a Robotics Engineer to implement state-of-the-art learning-based robotic manipulation methods on physical platforms for industry-driven applications, with an emphasis on contact-rich manipulation, robustness, and safe operation. The successful candidate will work closely with physical robots to translate recent advances in learning-based robotics into reliable, deployable systems. Key Responsibilities Implement, adapt, and evaluate state-of-the-art learning-based methods (e.g. imitation learning) for contact-rich robotic manipulation. Integrate hardware and software components into a functional system for real-world deployment. Design and execute field trials (test protocols, data logging, troubleshooting, reliability improvements). Produce technical documentation, reports, and implementation guides to support knowledge transfer and maintainability. Support project procurement activities (e.g., technical specifications, vendor evaluation, quotations) for robotics hardware, sensors, and compute resources. Contribute to publications and technical notes to disseminate research outcomes. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.
