This position will immerse the appointees in both academic research and teaching in the multi-disciplinary team of the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (https://www.socsc.hku.hk/rhps/) within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Duties and Responsibilities The appointees will be primarily responsible for the following: Involve in on-going research projects of the Population Hub Draft proposals, reports, and presentations relevant to the projects Perform advanced quantitative data analysis Publish high-quality academic papers in peer-reviewed journals Mentor junior research staff Teach one undergraduate or taught postgraduate course per year, if required; and Support and perform other duties as assigned Requirements The appointees are expected to have: A Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences, Sociology, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a relevant discipline A strong quantitative background and extensive experience in managing and analysing large and complex datasets; expertise in Computational Social Science and proficiency in longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, and state-of-the-art statistical models would be an advantage The ability to develop a strong body of high-quality publications in scholarly journals with global impact The ability to multitask and work under tight schedules to meet project deadlines The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team A strong commitment to teaching and training activities in the Population Hub and the Faculty A strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, and work ethics Good analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills What We Offer A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits, with a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Key Responsibilities Develop, deliver, and regularly update content relevant to their specialty across the curriculum of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme, from pre-clinical courses to clinical rotations, as well as in postgraduate programmes. The successful candidate will be expected to engage students through innovative teaching methods, fostering critical thinking, clinical reasoning, professional values and ethical practice. Provide clinical education leadership, overseeing curriculum design and delivery, student assessment and continuous quality improvement, and provide mentorship to junior members of the clinical education team. Provide mentorship and guidance to students, including advising on research projects, theses, and career development. Conduct high-impact research in Endocrinology, securing external funding to establish and sustain these programmes. Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences. Serve on Departmental and School committees and assist with strategic planning and development. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields from a recognized University. Major in Information Security will be advantageous. Professional or industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA), Juniper (JNCIA), Huawei (HCNA), Aruba (ACA), or equivalent will be an added advantage. Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of industry experience as a software engineer or network engineer with strong technical expertise and hands-on experience. Proficiency in software development principles, including Object-Oriented Design, Microservices, API integration, and full software development lifecycles. Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, Java (preferred but not limited to). Hands-on experience in enterprise networking, including LAN/WAN design and operations with protocols and technologies such as VLAN, OSPF, ACL, VRF lite, VRRP, VPN, and link aggregation. Familiarity with software for networking devices/functions (routers, switches, firewalls) or network automation / SDN. Understanding of software repository management and/or change management processes for network/software version control.
