The School of Engineering and Built Environment seeks to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on a research project for 24 months funded by LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation. This is part of a project in capacity building to improve higher education skills in Ethiopia and to establish regional universities as local powerhouses in research and teaching related to logistics and supply chain management. Your main duty will be carrying out joint research projects with Ethiopian academics, guest lecturing, academic-practice engagement projects, reciprocal research stays, curriculum review, and co-supervision for Ethiopian students. The duties will also seek to establish new ties between LJMU and universities in Ethiopia and potentially the wider region. You should hold a PhD degree and have an in-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain management with direct application in Ethiopia where LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation is seeking to strengthen the education experience for logistics and supply chain management students and faculty. In addition, you should have relevant experience in the local industrial and academic processes and customs. It would be desirable for candidates to have a network of contacts from the private and public sector to support data collection and information gathering for research activities. Previous participation in curricula design and review processes is beneficial. Experience in presenting results at meetings is essential. You should be able to work effectively as a team member with academics, industrial partners, and research students. Preferably, you should be fluent in Amharic and another local Ethiopian language. Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) in the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on crystal structure determination using electron or X-ray crystallography. Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time. Proficiency in refining structures from electron diffraction data collected using a microscope or specialized equipment is preferred. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students.
