Sivas University of Science and Technology, in central Turkey, was founded in 2018. Five years later, it was granted the title of “University specialising in optics.”

The modern university sits in an ancient city: former residents include the Hittites, the Assyrians, the Persians and the Romans. It is home to the Great Mosque and Hospital of Divriği, a Unesco World Heritage site, as well as the largest surviving Hittite temples in the world.

The university’s degree courses are taught by three faculties – the faculty of engineering and natural sciences; the faculty of aeronautics and astronautics; and the faculty of agricultural sciences and technologies – which run alongside the Sivas vocational school.

Sivas offers dormitory space to every student who requests it. State dormitories offer social and cultural activities, alongside accommodation. Alternative accommodation in privately owned dormitories or student apartments is also available.

Job Description As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow to join an exciting applied research project within the Infocomm Technology cluster at SIT. This project addresses the critical challenge of delivering real-time Artificial Intelligence (AI) services in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, where latency and timeliness are paramount. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel edge-assisted offloading strategies for IoT networks. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on offloading algorithm design and development for IoT networks. The core responsibility is to build and validate edge-assisted offloading strategies, complete with software APIs, through rigorous simulations and live demonstrations. This position is ideal for a researcher with a passion for solving complex problems at the intersection of wireless communications, edge computing, and machine learning, and who is eager to translate theoretical insights into practical, IoT systems. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of closed-form theoretical latency and timeliness expressions for cloud-hosted AI services and edge-assisted offloading strategies. Analysis of theoretical latency and timeliness for cloud-hosted AI services and edge-assisted offloading strategies. Design and development of edge-assisted offloading strategy and associated software APIs. Validation of edge-assisted offloading strategy via simulations and live demonstrations. Job Requirements A Ph.D degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent. Independent, highly analytical, proactive and a team player. Strong theoretical background in wireless communications or edge computing will be advantageous. Proven track record in research and development of edge intelligence algorithms will be advantageous. Knowledge of machine learning or reinforcement learning techniques will be advantageous. Proficiency in algorithm development using Python will be advantageous

Duration and Requirements of the Fellowship The duration of the Fellowship will normally be three years. Description As part of the Electrical Engineering program of the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NYU Abu Dhabi the group of Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos seeks to improve the autonomy of Field Robotic systems by fusing control theoretic and machine intelligence approaches. Formal models are directly applied in real experimental facilities. Marine Robotics is our current emphasis, without excluding candidates with prior experience on Aerial or Ground Systems. We are seeking a Post-Doctoral associate to join our expanding team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong engineering skills to find innovative and cost-effective means to improve our research, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to enhance our multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence. Methodologies of interest include: Robot modelling, Nonlinear and Optimal control, Reinforcement learning, and Data-driven modeling and control. The Post-Doctoral associate will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will directly report to Prof. K.J.Kyriakopoulos in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The Post-Doctoral associate will engage with our regular collaborators at local institutions in the UAE and abroad. Key responsibilities Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on Control theory and ML methodologies for Field Robotics; Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda; Reproduce results of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods; Design and implement experiments on real platforms operating outdoors, to compare our proposed work with SOTA baselines; Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and conferences; Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility; and Collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi. Minimum Qualifications Possessing a Doctoral degree from a recognized institution in Electrical, Mechanical, Naval or Aerospace Engineering. First-author peer-reviewed published papers (and/or under review) Demonstrable research experience involving integration of hardware and software of robotic systems. Demonstrable research experience in conducting experiments for field robotic systems Proficient programming experience in embedded, real-time software in C/C++ and Python with several years of practice Experience in maintaining high-quality code on Github Ability to visualize experimental results Effective inter-personal and team-building skills Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and in a team to get the work done Excellent communication skills (oral and written communication) Willingness to learn and confront new challenges The appointment will be for two (2) years with the option to renew further depending on performance. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Automation, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or related areas in development would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Hands-on experience in electronics/electrical. Programming of Microcontrollers and embedded systems. Working knowledge of programming languages such ROS/ROS2, Python, C/C++ Programming, Knowledge of subjects such as computer vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Kinematics and dynamics. Autonomous systems, Robotics and Automation. Industry 4.0 and Internet-of-Things. Advantageous to have prior knowledge in: Hands-on experience implementation of industrial robotics systems and performing offline simulation of robotic work cells. Digitalisation skills – IoT, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mixed reality, etc would be advantageous. Programming and simulation software such as MATLAB, Gazebo and Tensor flow. Knowledge of Linux OS. Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.
