The University of Sydney School of Health Sciences is seeking an outstanding Implementation Science Research Fellow (Level A or B) with strong quantitative and qualitative research methods skills. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary implementation science research program in collaboration with the Sydney Health Partners Implementation Science Academy.

In this role, you will co-lead and contribute to implementation research projects focused on translating clinical practice guidelines into routine care, introducing policy changes at scale, and reducing unwarranted variation in care. Primarily, you will be coordinating a large MRFF funded implementation trial testing different strategies for reducing the provision of routine low value diagnostic testing and imaging in NSW intensive care units. You will design, conduct, and publish research in collaboration with our health service partners, involving qualitative interviews and focus groups, intervention co-design, quantitative data collection and analysis, and evaluation using a factorial trial design. You will work with a team of researchers led by Dr. Mitchell Sarkies and liaise with a range of academics, research and administrative staff, and industry stakeholders.
Please note- This position requires a criminal record check and up to date vaccination and immunisation.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	Conduct qualitative interviews and focus groups to co-develop and evaluate implementation strategies by incorporating clinical, policy, economic, and lived experience perspectives
	undertake quantitative research and evaluation to assess the implementation of changes within the health system using a factorial trial design
	facilitate and contribute to strengthening the capability of project partners to use implementation science research and evaluation methods
	lead and contribute to academic publications in high quality journals, national and international conference presentations and other dissemination activities
	lead and contribute to applications for competitive research grant funding to deliver research impact
	co-supervise higher degree research students and contribute to a positive workplace culture that values diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence, and achieving outcomes
	undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities relevant to the role's key accountabilities as approved by the Manager and commensurate with the role's classification level.


About you


	A PhD in a relevant health-related field, such as clinical (medicine, nursing, allied health), health services, public health, human factors, implementation science, or psychology
	excellent communication skills with an ability to lead projects involving a range of healthcare stakeholders, including clinicians, policy makers, hospital executives, and patients
	demonstrated experience designing, conducting, analysing and publishing both qualitative and quantitative studies.
	track record of peer reviewed publications in high quality journals and conference presentations
	demonstrated experience contributing to the academic life and administrative tasks of the broader workplace, with a track record of effective teamwork


Desirable


	experience with NVivo and statistical software packages (SPSS, STATA, SAS)
	understanding of implementation science in the Australian healthcare system
	demonstrated experience undertaking systematic reviews.

About the role

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Surrey is seeking to recruit a full-time postdoctoral research fellow to work on a range of topics in the areas including:


	emerging hardware architectures (weak memory, RDMA, persistent memory, CXL);
	formal modelling, verification and/or logic;
	interactive and automated tools, such as theorem provers and model checkers;
	proofs of safety and/or security properties;
	programming languages and/or type systems;
	concurrent and/or distributed algorithms; and related topics.


The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of Brijesh Dongol (PI) and Gregory Chockler (co-I), as well as a large team of academics (Imperial, Kent, Sheffield, MPI-SWS, Cornell, IMDEA, etc) and industrial collaborators (Arm, NVIDIA, Galois), researchers and PhD students.

Research Environment

Surrey is recognized by the NCSC as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research and offers a thriving research environment with world-leading researchers. Brijesh Dongol is a Director of the NCSC/UK Research Institute on Verified Trustworthy Software Systems (VeTSS, https://vetss.org.uk/)hosted jointly at Surrey and Imperial.

Our research includes security verification, protocol design and analysis, distributed and network systems, concurrency, data privacy, privacy preserving security, and applied cryptography. We offer access to a variety of cutting-edge hardware testbeds including a 7-node RDMA cluster (NVIDIA) as well as machines equipped with persistent memory (Intel Optane) and trusted execution environments (Intel SGX).

About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join a cutting-edge UKRI-funded research project titled "Behavioural Data-Driven Coalitional Control for Buildings." The project is led by Professor Eric C Kerrigan at Imperial College London (ICL) and co-led by Dr Paola Falugi (UEL) and Professor Goran Strbac (ICL). It aims to develop distributed, data-driven solutions to coordinate groups of buildings in real time, supporting energy grid stability and improving carbon efficiency.

 

Buildings account for around 40% of the UK’s energy use and carbon emissions. This project addresses that challenge by exploring how adaptive control, real-time monitoring, and behavioural modelling can help dynamically form coalitions of buildings that support robust and efficient grid operation.

 

As a Research Associate, you will:

 


	Contribute to the development of distributed optimisation methods and advanced control strategies.
	Collaborate closely with project partners, including UK Power Networks and SSE Energy Solutions.
	Work from UEL’s Docklands campus with regular travel to ICL and other stakeholder sites as required.
	Disseminate findings through high-impact publications and presentations.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong academic and research background in one or more of the following areas:

You will possess a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science. You will have demonstrable experience in conducting high-quality research, with a strong publication record and a keen interest in applying your expertise to real-world challenges in energy systems.

 

Essential criteria:

 


	Strong background in distributed optimisation, control theory, or data-driven modelling.
	Experience with modelling and simulation of energy or building systems.
	Excellent programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or similar tools).
	Proven ability to write research papers and deliver presentations to academic and industry audiences.
	Strong interpersonal and project coordination skills.


You should also be proactive, collaborative, and eager to contribute to impactful research that supports sustainability, innovation, and the transition to net-zero.

As the Lecturer, you will be expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the School and the Data Science & AI Discipline.
