Located in the Somali capital city of Mogadishu ,SIMAD University was established in 1999. It was awarded with full university status in 2011. It is one of four African universities established by Direct Aid (formerly the African Muslim Agency).
Faculties at the university include medicine and health sciences, management sciences, accountancy, computing, social sciences, economics, education, engineering and law. There is also an English skills programme. 
The university is made up of three campuses: the main campus, Gahair campus and GS campus. 
The majority of students study at the main campus and this is also the home of the Institute of Modern Languages as well as the administration building, ICT and exam office building, a conference hall, the main library and the grand mosque. 
The Gahair campus is where the faculties of social sciences and law are based. The GD campus is where postgraduate and evening programme students study. 
There is a focus on sustainable development projects. The Institute of Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship, set up in 2019, has provided many six-month training courses for unemployed graduates.

The School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular and metabolic research (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/scms).

We study the fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological processes that underly normal and abnormal cardiovascular and metabolic function and we drive the translation of this strong basic science into advances in clinical practice to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This activity provides a high-quality research and training environment for non-clinical and clinical scientists.

The School occupies facilities across the Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill campuses of King’s College London and comprises over 65 academic groups, hosting 400 staff and 110 PhD students. 

About The Role

This BHF-funded position is for a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist to work on “Investigating novel roles of nesprin and the LINC complex in cardiomyocyte mechanotransduction”. The project will involve the use of wide range of experimental techniques including in vivo physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and histology. We therefore seek to appoint an individual with a strong background in mouse model of cardiac and skeletal muscle disease as well as good experience of cell/molecular biology. Experience in surgery and in vivo phenotyping (e.g. high resolution echocardiography) is highly desirable. The postholder will be part of a vibrant multi-disciplinary research group working on several different aspects of cardiovascular pathophysiology, within the King’s BHF Centre of Research Excellence which has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. 

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 19.5 months from contract start date.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD in a relevant biological sciences project
	Strong background in experimental cardiovascular mouse models
	Home Office Personal Licence or equivalent
	Experience of working with in-vivo models of disease or gene-modification
	Broad cell and molecular biological techniques (e.g. immunoblotting, qPCR, cell culture, immunofluorescence)
	Good written presentation skills, communication skills (written & verbal), and good IT skills
	Successful completion of research projects (published papers in high Impact Factor journals)
	Self-motivated, able to work independently, as well as willing and able to work as part of a team
	Commitment to continuing personal and professional development
	Able to carry out know/learnt techniques unsupervised, and flexible/able to change in current professional context
	Able to plan and prioritise workload and keep clear and well-organised laboratory notes and records


Desirable criteria


	Background in nuclear envelope biology
	Experience in in vivo cardiovascular physiology (e.g. echo)
	Experience in gene-modified models including breeding strategy and genotyping
	Experience in Histology, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy, GST pulldown and immunoprecipitation

The School of CHIPS is one of the seven industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES


	A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics engineering, microelectronics engineering, integrated circuits design, integrated circuits fabrication, microprocessor systems, digital VLSI design, CMOS digital integrated circuits, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement.
	Self-motivated for innovative teaching.

Job Description:

The University seeks to appoint an exceptionally motivated and energetic leader of high professional and academic standing as Senior Director: Global Engagement, reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation. The Senior Director will provide strategic, operational, and administrative oversight of the Global Engagement Division (Division). The Senior Director must effectively and collegially steward the Division to excel in all aspects related to global engagement while overseeing the following sub-divisions: International student recruitment, admissions and marketing, study abroad, academic services, international fundraising and administration, international public relations and communications.

The Senior Director: Global Engagement plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's global engagements, international branding and marketing, fostering a diverse and inclusive international community, and promoting cross-cultural understanding. This portfolio contributes to the university's international reputation and its ability to prepare students for a globally interconnected world. The primary purpose of the Senior Director: Global Engagement role is to provide leadership and drive global excellence and stature, as well as deliver high-level strategic and operational leadership to the Global Engagement portfolio and all relevant stakeholders within the university, including Vice Deans for Global Engagement. The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work within the research group of Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths and Dr Craig Anderson and focus on measuring the magnitude and structure magnetic fields in the nearby Universe using Faraday Rotation.  The work will revolve around the ASKAP Polarisation Survey of the Universe’s Magnetism, POSSUM.  This position will focus on using POSSUM Rotation Measures to probe the magnetoionic medium in the Magellanic Clouds, the circumgalactic medium of galaxies and/or nearby galaxy groups.  This will also include some technical work to enable the delivery of the POSSUM survey data products. The Postdoctoral Fellow is also expected to contribute to other areas of academic activity including education and service (including outreach). The Postdoctoral Fellow may also be required to supervise or mentor less senior staff, and undertake leadership roles as applicable. The staff member will contribute cooperatively to the overall intellectual life of the School, College and University.   

The Person

An outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of Faraday rotation and/or extragalactic magnetism. The candidate will have (or shortly obtain) a PhD in astronomy or a related area, with a strong track record of research in the field of Radio Polarimetry and/or Faraday Rotation as evidenced by cited publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, a record of developing and maintaining collaborations and by other measures such as awards, and invitations to present at prominent conferences etc.  The candidate will have a track record of articulating and prosecuting innovative research in the field of astronomy and demonstrated ability to lead and work as part of a team.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will use ASKAP POSSUM data with a view to publishing original and innovative results in international refereed journals, present research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborate with other researchers at a national and/or international level.
