Ref.: 533908 Work type: Full-time Department: School of Modern Languages and Cultures (05100) Categories: Professoriate Staff Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Korean Studies with a primary focus in Trans-Asian Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Ref.: 533908), to commence on September 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a related field. The position seeks a specialist in Korean Studies with a transnational and global perspective encompassing the early modern, modern, and contemporary periods. Preferred fields of expertise include, but are not limited to: history, cultural studies, film and media studies, and gender and sexuality studies. We particularly welcome candidates with additional strengths in emerging fields such as future technologies (including digital media and artificial intelligence) and transcultural communication. The appointee must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Korean and will be expected to conduct rigorous research, excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and fulfill administrative responsibilities for the Korean Studies Programme, including language courses. Description The Water Research Center (WRC) at NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to contribute to cutting-edge research on membrane fouling and functional membranes, including electrically conductive membranes. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Raed Hashaikeh in the Mechanical Engineering Department, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and graduate students. The postdoctoral associate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at NYUAD. This position supports two interconnected research streams: Investigating membrane fouling mechanisms and mitigation strategies in desalination and water treatment processes. Developing and optimizing functional membranes, including electrically conductive membranes, for use in desalination, energy generation, and electrochemical separations. Responsibilities: Conduct research on membrane fouling (biofouling, scaling, organic fouling), diagnostics, and control strategies. Design, fabricate, and characterize functional membranes (e.g., conductive, anti-fouling, electrochemical systems). Operate and evaluate membrane systems (RO, NF, UF) at lab and pilot scales. Apply advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, AFM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, EDX, EIS, CV). Collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers in materials science, chemical and environmental engineering. Contribute to mentorship of students and lab group discussions. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong background in membrane science with demonstrated expertise in either membrane fouling or electrochemical membrane technologies. Experience with membrane fabrication, testing, and characterization. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively. A strong publication record with first-author articles. Desired Qualifications: Expertise in fouling analysis and mitigation, including cleaning protocols and pretreatment strategies. Familiarity with conductive membranes, carbon-based materials, or mixed-matrix systems. Experience with electrochemical methods (e.g., EIS, CV) and surface functionalization. Knowledge of materials for charge transport and ion exchange. Prior collaboration with international or multidisciplinary research teams. This position will begin in March 2026, as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing. We are recruiting a half-time Research Assistant for Dr. Jeremy Land’s University of Helsinki Rector-funded Project "QuILT: Quantifying Illicit and Licit Trade in the Early Modern Economy " at the University of Helsinki. This project runs until the end of 2026, and the assistantship will last for 10 months. The project seeks to create datasets tracking trade going to and from Stockholm and Amsterdam from 1750-1775. The research assistant will help to build these datasets using sources already collected by the PI and postdoc in the project. We invite applications for a Research Assistant for a 10-month employment contract 15.2.2026-15.12.2026 (or starting as agreed). The selected candidate must be an enrolled bachelor or master student at University of Helsinki. The tasks include: Data entry Various research support tasks for the team members (e.g. proofreading, editing references, and bibliographies) Assisting in identifying additional data for the project. Working hours are flexible and paid by hour. The work is part-time, from 0 to 40 hours per month.
