Apply by: 28/01/2026 Role Description About the Role This role supports and delivers research in plant and soil sciences in laboratory, glasshouse and field-based environments with an emphasis on “postharvest” research concerning biology and technologies for extending the shelf-life and quality of fresh fruit and vegetables. It also supports student learning and development (both MSc and PhD) by delivering training and guidance for projects in your own area of expertise. SABS has internationally-recognised expertise across both domestic and international food supply chains, from soil science to postharvest quality. Our work is truly global, reaching across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America and SE Asia, working with agribusiness to address the challenges of environmental sustainability and food security. About You You will be educated to Level 4 (HND) as a minimum in a relevant subject and have significant experience in a relevant technical role: setting up experimental trials, using/ maintaining laboratory and field-based experimental equipment. With good written and verbal communication skills, you will have the ability to interpret complicated instructions, analyse requirements and implement detailed specifications. You will also have a working knowledge of health and safety procedures and the ability to learn new skills. Ideally, you will have experience of HPLC and/or postharvest biology. Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a related field. The position seeks a specialist in Korean Studies with a transnational and global perspective encompassing the early modern, modern, and contemporary periods. Preferred fields of expertise include, but are not limited to: history, cultural studies, film and media studies, and gender and sexuality studies. We particularly welcome candidates with additional strengths in emerging fields such as future technologies (including digital media and artificial intelligence) and transcultural communication. The appointee must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Korean and will be expected to conduct rigorous research, excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and fulfill administrative responsibilities for the Korean Studies Programme, including language courses. Description The Water Research Center (WRC) at NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to contribute to cutting-edge research on membrane fouling and functional membranes, including electrically conductive membranes. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Raed Hashaikeh in the Mechanical Engineering Department, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and graduate students. The postdoctoral associate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at NYUAD. This position supports two interconnected research streams: Investigating membrane fouling mechanisms and mitigation strategies in desalination and water treatment processes. Developing and optimizing functional membranes, including electrically conductive membranes, for use in desalination, energy generation, and electrochemical separations. Responsibilities: Conduct research on membrane fouling (biofouling, scaling, organic fouling), diagnostics, and control strategies. Design, fabricate, and characterize functional membranes (e.g., conductive, anti-fouling, electrochemical systems). Operate and evaluate membrane systems (RO, NF, UF) at lab and pilot scales. Apply advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, AFM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, EDX, EIS, CV). Collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers in materials science, chemical and environmental engineering. Contribute to mentorship of students and lab group discussions. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong background in membrane science with demonstrated expertise in either membrane fouling or electrochemical membrane technologies. Experience with membrane fabrication, testing, and characterization. Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively. A strong publication record with first-author articles. Desired Qualifications: Expertise in fouling analysis and mitigation, including cleaning protocols and pretreatment strategies. Familiarity with conductive membranes, carbon-based materials, or mixed-matrix systems. Experience with electrochemical methods (e.g., EIS, CV) and surface functionalization. Knowledge of materials for charge transport and ion exchange. Prior collaboration with international or multidisciplinary research teams.
