Shaqra University

Shaqra University was established in 2009 by royal decree as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s national strategy to expand access to higher education across underserved regions. As a public university operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, it plays a key role in the development of central and western parts of the country.

Headquartered in the city of Shaqra, approximately 200 km northwest of Riyadh, the university has grown into a multi-campus institution with branches in more than 10 cities and towns, including Dawadmi, Afif, Sajer, and Thadiq. 

Across its numerous campuses, the university offers a wide range of colleges and departments. Its main Shaqra campus is home to six colleges alone: College of Science and Humanities, College of Education, College of Medicine, College of Computing and Information Technology, Applied College, and the College of Applied Medical Sciences. 

All academic programmes are designed to meet the needs of the local labour market, combining academic instruction with practical training and field experience, particularly in healthcare, education, and IT sectors.

An important part of the university’s activity is its investment in research, faculty development, and digital infrastructure. It supports applied and interdisciplinary research through its Deanship of Scientific Research, with increasing focus on areas aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, such as renewable energy, digital transformation, and public health.
