Shanxi Medical University is based in Taiyuan, China.
It was founded in 1919 as the Shanxi Medical Research University, so is among the oldest of modern Chinese medical schools. It went through six changes of identity before becoming part of Shanxi University from 1940 to 1953. Restored to independence as Shanxi Medical College, it attained university status in 1996.
The university has three campuses – Yingze in Taiyuan, the affiliated hospital in Chuanhzi and Shanxi Higher Education campus.
It has three directly-affiliated hospitals along with 18 which are non-affiliated and 32 teaching hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital is the main heart and lung transplant centre for Shanxi.
It has a six-year MBBS qualification, starting with one year of intensive Chinese language instruction followed by five years of medical studies, for international students.
