Shanxi Medical University is based in Taiyuan, China. 
It was founded in 1919 as the Shanxi Medical Research University, so is among the oldest of modern Chinese medical schools. It went through six changes of identity before becoming part of Shanxi University from 1940 to 1953. Restored to independence as Shanxi Medical College, it attained university status in 1996.
The university has three campuses – Yingze in Taiyuan, the affiliated hospital in Chuanhzi and Shanxi Higher Education campus. 
It has three directly-affiliated hospitals along with 18 which are non-affiliated and 32 teaching hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital is the main heart and lung transplant centre for Shanxi. 
It has a six-year MBBS qualification, starting with one year of intensive Chinese language instruction followed by five years of medical studies, for international students.

The Department of History (https://www.ln.edu.hk/history/) invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position in global history. We are particularly interested in candidates specializing in areas not currently covered by our academic staff, such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Applicants with expertise in digital methods for historical analysis, as well as knowledge and practical skills in using digital applications for research and pedagogy, will be given preference.

General Requirements

Applicants should have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree in history or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment. They should have a good track record of publications and grant applications, a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and an interest in taking on service. The appointee is expected to publish scholarly outputs in international journals and/or with leading publishers, apply for competitive grants administered by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, other local/overseas competitive grants and/or fellowship schemes, teach courses in their areas of specialty (typically two to three courses per academic year); and perform administrative duties in accordance with the current guidelines.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of two or three years. Renewal of contract may be considered, subject to availability of resources, performance review, and mutual agreement.

Your role

The professor is expected to develop and pursue an independent research agenda in the fields of entrepreneurship and digital technologies, with a particular focus on quantitative methods. They will:

	Actively contribute to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including in the Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Bachelor in Business Administration, while also showing openness to teaching business-related subjects at the bachelor level

	Engage with academic, institutional, and external stakeholders in Luxembourg and internationally


This position is part of the University of Luxembourg's tenure-track scheme, which offers the assistant professor the possibility to obtain tenure and promotion to the rank of associate professor upon positive evaluation. Your profile

The ideal candidate explores how emerging digital technologies - such as artificial intelligence, digital platforms and big data - shape entrepreneurial activity, including the creation, development, and scaling of new ventures. Candidates should possess post-doctoral experience and present a clear and coherent research agenda with strong potential for publication in leading international journals.

A solid foundation in quantitative methods is essential, including in causal inference techniques (e.g., panel data econometrics, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables). Familiarity with modern data sources and tools such as large-scale firm-level data, text analysis, or computational approaches is desirable.

An interest in topics such as startup dynamics, technology adoption, or the broader implications of digital transformation for entrepreneurship is of particular relevance. While familiarity with entrepreneurial finance is considered an asset, it is not a requirement.

We are seeking experienced and suitably qualified teachers of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join King’s Foundations—a successful, friendly, and thriving department located in the heart of London and the university. Our team comprises around 115 staff members, increasing to over 150 during the summer months, and generates an annual turnover of approximately £30 million. 

As we expand our EAP provision—including Foundation, Pre-sessional, Academic Skills, and Short Courses—we are looking for enthusiastic educators to contribute to this exciting phase of development. The successful candidate will teach approximately 580 hours per year across our International Foundation, Pre-sessional, and Short Course programmes, both on campus and online. They will also contribute to the design, development, and delivery of a range of modules and courses within our growing EAP portfolio. 

In addition, the postholder will act as a personal tutor, providing academic and pastoral support to students, including safeguarding responsibilities for those under 18. Please note that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.

This role is offered on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP), which recognises and supports excellence in teaching and educational leadership. It is subject to a three-year probationary period, in line with other academic roles at King’s College London.

Job description:

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher specialized in electronics and embedded systems, capable of designing and deploying innovative IoT solutions for research projects such as air quality monitoring, water leak detection and energy monitoring of electric vehicle batteries. The candidate will need to master sensor technologies, embedded systems, and communication protocols, while integrating real-time data into cloud platforms to develop reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

Design, develop, and test IoT solutions for air quality monitoring and electric vehicle battery tracking. Integrate environmental and energy sensors with real-time data collection and analysis systems. Deploy prototypes in the field and optimize their performance based on feedback. Guarantee the reliability, security and scalability of the IoT solutions developed. Work closely with research teams to produce usable data and contribute to scientific publications. Contribute to scientific publications and disseminate results to decision-makers and communities.

Qualifications required

PhD in one of the following fields: electronics and embedded systems, telecommunications, industrial computing, electrical engineering or equivalent. Expertise in the design, prototyping and deployment of IoT solutions for environmental and energy applications. Solid knowledge of embedded electronics and microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, etc.). Expertise in developing sensors for air quality (PM2.5, CO2, Nox, etc.) and energy monitoring (voltages, currents, battery charge/discharge cycles); Proficiency in languages commonly used in IoT, such as C/C++, Python, and JavaScript. Expertise in firmware development and optimization for microcontrollers and embedded systems. Knowledge of IoT communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, Zigbee, BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, etc.). Experience in integrating IoT systems with cloud platforms such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Google Cloud IoT, ThingsBoard, etc. Familiarity with Edge Computing architecture to process data locally before transferring it to the cloud. Implementation of pipelines to collect real-time data from IoT sensors. Expertise in IoT-oriented databases (e.g., InfluxDB, PostgreSQL, Firebase, etc.). Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Grafana, Tableau, etc.).

Ability to solve complex problems related to the design and optimization of IoT systems. Ability to lead a project from start to finish, from design to implementation. About the role 

The Senior Pre-University Summer School Manager will oversee and manage pastoral care16 and 17 years old Pre-University Summer School students in residences as well as the smooth running of the extracurricular summer school programme and overall student experience. Leading a team of Summer School assistants, the postholder will both - support and proactive care to all students during their time on the programme as well as support to students in crisis.

The postholder will be required to live in Stamford Street Apartments (SSA) residence alongside their team of Summer Assistants between 5 July-1 August 2026. Accommodation provision in SSA is free of charge and includes 2 meals per day (breakfast and dinner) served in the onsite restaurant.

As one of the senior managers on the programme, the postholder will work closely with the Summer Programmes Deputy Head of Ops and the Head of Education to ensure the smooth day to day running of the summer school. The postholder will also line manage the Pre-University Summer School Manager and an extended team of Summer School Assistants.

The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS certificate.

Period of appointment: Fixed term for 3 months, 6 May- 7 August 2026

Working Hours: Wed 6th May – June, Mon-Fri, flexible between 17.5 - 35 hours per week depending on workload and start date. During programme delivery (July) - full time, 5 days out of 7, Mon - Sun; postholder may be required to work additional hours during this period; this will be paid at the normal hourly rate
