The University of Sydney deeply values Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is the flagship program of Sydney Medical School. There are approximately 220 Commonwealth Supported Places for medicine each year. Our goal is to attract, support and graduate Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander doctors in each of our cohorts. We currently have 22 Indigenous students enrolled in the MD.

The primary role of the Senior Lecturer (Indigenous Health) is to contribute to the teaching and learning efforts within the MD Program and provide support and guidance for our indigenous students enrolled in the MD.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	participate in educational activities relating to Indigenous Health in the MD curriculum
	provide support for our Indigenous students across the 4 years of the program, based at Camperdown campus and metropolitan clinical schools
	participate in peer support with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff at the Camperdown campus and clinical schools associated with the MD
	identify and engage key stakeholders in the community, including Aboriginal Medical Services and the Local Health District, maintain regular contact with them via meetings and surveys, and updates.
	develop and grow relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
	travel to Dubbo and Lismore campuses as required
	act as a role model for Indigenous students, offering mentoring and guidance throughout their medical education journey.


About you:


	identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and a passion for Aboriginal people, culture, health, history and change
	evidence of strong links and respect within the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
	allied Health or medical background or experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations desirable
	experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching and teaching in a variety of settings, and experience and demonstrable skills in engaging effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds
	strong track record as collaborative member of project teams
	a developing knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the higher education sector or willingness to learn
	excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
	proven practical experience working within local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with strong links and respect.

We invite applications for a Research Fellow to join our welcoming and collaborative team of world-leading researchers at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), University of Southampton. With over 300 staff and students, the ORC is an internationally recognised hub for cutting-edge research, delivering real-world impact across manufacturing, communication technologies, augmented reality, healthcare, renewable energy, and environmental solutions.

About the Role

As a valued member of our team, you will play a key role in developing and producing advanced optoelectronic devices for applications such as quantum technologies, integrated optical sensors, and laser optics. In this EPSRC-funded project, you will lead a wide range of optical fabrication and characterisation activities, working side-by-side with researchers to develop the world's lowest-loss on-chip optical resonators. A core part of this role will involve close collaboration with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and inter-institute visits to drive the project forward and translate our research into tangible innovations for the UK’s growing photonics sector.

Your Responsibilities

As part of the role, you will be required to operate and maintain state-of-the-art fabrication and characterisation equipment, liaise with our project partner, Caltech, develop innovative solutions, create new devices, publish results in leading journals, and investigate the potential to commercialise your outputs. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will help us create high-performance optical components that advance our research goals and commercial partnerships.

Who We’re Looking For

We seek a talented research fellow with skills and knowledge to complement our team. In this role, you will work with others to create glass layers via processes such as flame hydrolysis deposition and various microelectronics and optical fibre fabrication techniques to form the world's lowest loss integrated ring resonators. This role will focus on the fabrication and material characterisation of the waveguides, but will also involve waveguide design, optical characterisation, and integration with wider system-level components to demonstrate the potential applications of these devices.

Applications are encouraged from those with a strong background in optical material sciences, optical fibre or cleanroom fabrication, optics, lasers & photonics. We are looking for a self-motivated researcher with good experimental skills who is willing to conduct research independently and collaboratively, and who values contributing to a supportive team environment. You will also help train and support researchers and PhD students in this role, so strong communication and mentoring skills will be a plus. A PhD or equivalent professional qualification is essential. Embedded within the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at King’s College London, PharosAI offers a unique cancer AI product development ecosystem for drug discovery and clinical applications, democratising access to data, AI assets, technologies, and capabilities. PharosAI unites large-scale multimodal cancer datasets with AI models through a highly-secure, trusted, federated platform, offering state-of-the-art AI tooling for use by pharma/biotech/life-sciences, AI-pharma, and AI developers of clinical applications, in enterprises, growth companies, and research organisations. PharosAI will also provide a “lend me an expert” concierge service, training and education in AI for clinicians, and an end-to-end product development and deployment service, helping cancer pathology services to be more easily deployed within the NHS. This will be facilitated by a best-in-class patient involvement and governance model, and fair value sharing for data providers.

You will be based in the Innovation Hub, Guy’s Cancer Centre, Guy’s Hospital, within the King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank. The Biobank has been supporting translational cancer research at a national level since the 1970’s and accrued a significant number of samples during that time, all of which have been acquired under documented procedures and linked to verified clinical data. The Biobank has a team of more than 15 full time staff, including Advanced Practitioners, Consent Co-Ordinator, Quality Manager and Specialist Technicians.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Technical Manager to join PharosAI and the KHP Cancer Biobank to manage the specialist histology sample preparation and processing for image and -omics data generation.

The post holder will use advanced histology techniques and skills to generate data for inclusion in the PharosAI trusted research environment. You will undertake multiplex IF/IHC, define and create TMAs suitable for spatial transcriptomics, and drive the DNA/RNA extraction service. This will be underpinned by detailed histology knowledge and experience to rapidly identify and rectify technical and processing issues. As part of the role, you will also train others on use of equipment and theory of the techniques used.

Sample preparation support, including microtomy/ cryotomy and microdissection of tissue sections will form part of the role.

The successful candidate will liaise with and create a network of scientific and technical colleagues as well as commercial companies to keep abreast of new tissue-related technologies and equipment.

The role may occasionally require working outside of core hours, including weekends and evenings, dependent upon surgery/clinic times, to meet deadlines or to attend PharosAI events.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until initially 31st March 2027.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria 


	Undergraduate degree, HND, NVQ4 or equivalent in a relevant subject, plus work experience in a relevant technical/scientific post or Proven track record with extensive work experience in a relevant technical scientific post, demonstrating development through involvement in a series of progressively more demanding roles.
	Extensive experience of a range of histology and molecular biology techniques, with a full understanding of the technical/scientific theory underpinning these, along with the ability to apply learnt techniques to new areas of work
	Excellent planning and organisational skills used to manage staff and facilities, identifying performance standards and establishing protocols to deliver these.
	Working knowledge of regulations governing area of work.
	Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and interpersonal skills
	Have a proactive and responsive approach to internal and external contacts to build relationships and create networks.


Desirable criteria 


	Biobank experience.
	Experience and knowledge of human sample use in the research environment
	Evidence of an active commitment to professional development, such as working towards RSciTech / RSci.
