Your personal sphere of play: Your future position is located at the Department of Economic and Social History, which is part of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. The department has an international profile in social history, economic history, historical anthropology, and the history of knowledge. Trans-epochal and transregional approaches as well as interdisciplinary perspectives on economies and societies are part of its intellectual culture. Your immediate work partners are conducting research on the cultural history of the social in a broad sense, including the history of capitalism (in particular money and debt as social relations), history of the psychological disciplines, colonial history and decolonization, social movements, and the relation between history and social theory. Your own work is focused on the social and cultural history of Europe, or of Europe in the world, 19th to 20th century. A focus on one of the following areas is desirable though not required: History of capitalism, history of the psyche and the self, colonial history and decolonization, gender history, social movements, Austrian or Habsburg history. Important are independence as a researcher and capability for theoretical reflection as well as an interest in interdisciplinary conversations. Within the Faculty, you are involved in the focal points “Historical and Cultural Perspectives on Economy and Society” or “Global History.” Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This means: Your support the Professorship in “Cultural and Social History, 19th-20th Century” You work on your further academic qualification with a book project (second book, possibility to prepare and complete a Habilitation). You broaden your independent research profile with publications and presentations. You teach courses on the levels of BA, MA, and teachers’ certificate (Lehramt) in the discipline of History, and within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You participate in research projects and academic collaborations within the department and beyond. You participate in academic self-administration (committees, workings groups). You support the department’s intellectual community, for instance with public engagement. You participate in the supervision of BA and MA theses and in examination activities in German and English. This is part of your personality: Completed PhD in History or a related discipline. Thematic focus on one of the following fields is a plus but not required: History of capitalism, history of the psyche and the self, colonial history and decolonization, gender history, social movements, Austrian or Habsburg history.  You are well versed in combining theoretical perspectives with source-based research and have an active interest in the relation between history and social theory. About the area The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) is a joint venture between Curtin University and The University of Western Australia (UWA), established in 2009 and funded through 2030 with $65 million from the WA State Government. ICRAR is a leading institution in radio astronomy and a key Australian contributor to the global SKA project. The Astrophotonics Group within ICRAR develops advanced photonic systems for radio and optical astronomy, with a focus on long-distance transfer of stabilised frequency and timing signals via optical fibre and free-space laser links. About the opportunity Contribute to small research team conducting research on free-space optical communication, specifically optimised for operations within maritime environments. Work within a UWA small team and contribute to collaborations with project partner organisations including industry, government, and defence. ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ROBOTICS The School of Robotics is one of the seven industry-themed Schools in the XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang). Each School consists of an Education, Research and Development Institute (ERDI) for teaching and research collaboration, a one-stop School Office providing professional services to support student administration and activities, members of staff, and industry partners, and an affiliated School Joint-Venture Company jointly established by XJTLU and the School’s partner for industry-embedded teaching, learning, practical, and other activities. The governance of the School is through a School Council. The Dean of School oversees the School Management Team as well as contributing to the leadership of the college. The School of Robotics is jointly developed by the University and an industry partner – Siasun, to deliver the industry-themed programme(s). The first degree programme that the School has launched for the Academic Year 2019/2020 is BEng Intelligent Robotics Engineering with Contemporary Entrepreneurship. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR OF ERDI Working with the Dean of School, the main duties of this position include: Lead the design and development of syntegrative projects in schools in particular the integration across programmes or even across Schools. Engage actively with new educational models and embrace innovative, interactive, technology-enhanced learning, teaching, and assessment approaches. Create, nurture, and support a healthy industry-focused research environment, with agreed annual research outcomes and expectations agreed with the School Dean and wider Entrepreneur College. Lead and manage the School’s business engagement initiatives with a view to building an extensive portfolio of potential industry collaborative partnerships, working with the College’s Business Development team. Working with the Business Development team, identify and implement strategies to maximise research income, with a focus on business/industry, and develop syntegrative projects from industry that leads the learning and teaching in schools. Drive an emphasis on impact-creation through sustainable and unique value proposition in improving the School’s funded quality research and innovation and/or knowledge exchange activities, with a focus on industry. Support innovative cross-disciplinary research and become an ambassador for the School in promoting cross-boundary research and teaching activities through Centre of Excellence. Act as coordinator in schools in contributing to the development of XEC Innovation Factory, X3Co-Venture, and Non-degree Education. Manage the operation of research in schools including RDF, SURF, and present the school in University Research Committee. Support the XEC research coordinator in terms of PGRS operation.
