Applications are now invited for the following post: Research Assistant Professor Department of Sociology and Social Policy (Post Ref.: 25/302) The Department of Sociology and Social Policy brings together scholars with international research experience and publication records in the major areas of Sociology and Social Policy. Over the years, our faculty members have been the recipients of the University’s Research Excellence Award and Teaching Excellence Award. The Department offers undergraduate teaching in Sociology, Social and Public Policy, and Health and Social Services Management, while hosting an MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP). We have been consistently successful in attracting MPhil and PhD students from around the world, particularly the recipients of the Hong Kong RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme, and obtaining the General Research Fund (GRF) and other external competitive grants. General Requirements Applicants should have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree in Sociology, Social Policy or any discipline related to computational social science, or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment, with relevant teaching and research experience. Applicants are required to provide their research portfolio, publication record, and teaching evaluation among other relevant information. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English are essential. The appointee should be able to take up teaching duties in some of the courses on the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) Programme, including but not limited to: “Introduction to Social Data Sciences”, “The Social Impact of AI”, “Science and Technology”, “Consumption and Society”, and “The Making of Hong Kong”. The appointee should be prepared to actively support the coordination and development of our teaching programmes, as well as the research endeavours of faculty members in the areas of Sociology and Social Policy. Postdoctoral Researcher in Insect Morphology and Evolution

The Finnish Museum of Natural History (LUOMUS) at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Postdoctoral researcher in insect morphology and evolution for a fixed-term period of two years. The work will be based at the Finnish Museum of Natural History (Luomus), Helsinki, Finland. The postdoctoral researcher will join the PhenoBees project, funded by the Research Council of Finland, and work under the supervision of Diego S. Porto, an Academy Research Fellow. The successful candidate is expected to start by September 2026. ABOUT THE POSITION The main goal of the PhenoBees project is to develop a semantic data workflow to integrate comparative information from different phylogenetic datasets (for more details, see: PhenoBees page) and address hypotheses about the evolution of the mouthparts of bees (Hymenoptera: Apoidea). As part of the main project, the work of the postdoctoral researcher will be focused on generating, processing, and analysing comparative morphological data on bee mouthparts. The ultimate goal of the postdoctoral research is to understand the drivers and dynamics underlying the evolution of the mouthparts in bees. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for: Data collection: Dissecting and preparing material of bee mouthparts and measuring anatomical structures; Data analysis: Analysing comparative data (discrete and continuous traits) to test alternative hypotheses of modularity/integration of mouthpart structures in bees; Morphological study: Performing comparative anatomical study of a representative of a long-tongued bee and a short-tongued bee; Dissemination: Contributing in manuscript writing and attending conferences QUALIFICATIONS The position requires: A doctoral degree relevant to the project (e.g., biology, entomology, evolutionary biology) Experience working with comparative anatomy of insects, preferentially Hymenoptera The ability to conduct independent scholarly work Teaching skills necessary for the position Excellent collaboration and communication skills Excellent written and spoken English skills Clear motivation and commitment to perform the research Highly valued qualifications: Experience working with bee morphology Experience working with CT-Scan data or willingness to learn the necessary skills to work with it Knowledge of morphometrics and/or phylogenetic comparative methods in general WHY WORKING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI? Description Political scientists at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) are looking to hire a full-time junior or assistant research Scientist – equivalent to a research assistant/associate at other institutions – to start in September 2026. The position entails data management, replication, and visualization as well as literature reviews and light text editing. There might be an opportunity for co-authorships for a qualified candidate.
