Previously part of Sakarya University, Sakarya University of Applied Sciences was spun off in 2018 as a specialised institution, It is located in the Marmara Region around 90 miles from Istanbul and 190 miles from the capital, Ankara. Students can study across faculties of sports science, technology, tourism, applied science, agriculture, the Graduate School, health sciences, nursing, physiotherapy and rehabilitation and health management. It also runs 15 vocational schools. Strong emphasis is placed on a "7+1" education model under which students spend seven semesters in classes and one on placement with an enterprise, plus a compulsory 72-day summer internship. Notable alumni include two-time world and seven-time European taekwondo champion Kubra Dagli and two-time world Greco-Roman wrestling champion Metehan Basar.
