Based on the candidate's resume, other potential teaching assignments may be offered. For the 2023-24 academic year, terms begin on August 14 and January 17. Half-term classes also may be scheduled. This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between LJMU and A-SAFE Ltd aims to develop a world-first structural bio-composite for use in impact-resistant safety barrier systems. The associate will lead the technical development of bio-composite materials, ensuring their suitability for industrial use through experimental validation, modelling, and manufacturing integration. This is a unique opportunity to lead impactful R&D in sustainable engineering within a commercial setting, while receiving academic and professional development support.. The Research Engineer (Microgrid Controller Design) will contribute to a one-year applied research project funded by the Singapore Army, focusing on the development of a mobile DC microgrid for military tactical applications. The role involves designing and implementing advanced control algorithms to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically assign grid-forming roles under varying operating conditions. The engineer will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting.
