About the Role In this exciting role within our Student Systems Team, you will use analysis techniques and develop functionality to meet new business requirements, including automating business processes, establishing requirements, developing and implementing new functionality, system integrations, implementing new standard components, as well as communicating complex concepts to a wide variety of stakeholders. About You The ideal candidate will have a degree-level qualification in IT, Software Engineering or similar, and have experience in developing the Tribal SITS:Vision student records system, and ideally Maytas apprenticeship system. You will have overall experience in software development lifecycle management and complex relational database design, preferably within the HE sector. You will possess an excellent mix of interpersonal communication and tactical thinking skills, combined with a detailed knowledge of Tribal SITS, SQL, CSS, HTML v5, JavaScript and JQuery. You will be expected to engage with and influence staff across the University to achieve collective business requirements from key stakeholders for translating into prioritised deliverable systems development plans. You will possess strong system development skills, demonstrating a flexible, enthusiastic and positive attitude. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in sustainability focusing on, but not limited to, the Built Environment sector, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in mitigating the impact of climate change and meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, energy management, renewable energy, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Perform sustainability assessment and analysis for organizational green transition. Develop of sustainability solutions and training roadmap development for organizational green transition, focusing on but not limited to the Built Environment sector. Develop and execute of sustainability projects by conducting experiments, data collection, and analysis for Proof of Concept (POC) and implementation for organisations in, but not limited to, the built environment sector at neighbourhood-scale and building-scale, such as microclimate study, building energy and resource-use efficiency, sustainability strategies and technologies. Industry Collaboration Support collaborations with industry partners to understand problem statements and contribute to solution development Assist in project scoping by gathering technical inputs and identifying relevant capabilities within the ecosystem (IHLs, research centres, industry partners) Participate in industry meetings, discussions, and project engagements Project Execution & Support Assist in planning and executing projects to ensure timely delivery of outcomes Generate technical reports, presentations, and documentation on the development of sustainability solutions and applications Contribute to grant proposals and project submissions where required Track project progress and maintain proper documentation of activities Job Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ year experience in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services. Strong knowledge and experience in building passive strategies, ACMV systems and control. Hands on experience on experimental studies, including urban microclimate and thermal comfort study, is highly advantageous. Possess understanding of sustainability concepts (e.g., LCA, carbon foot printing, resource efficiency). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Key competencies:  Possess understanding of sustainability challenges faced by industries locally and globally. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with industry partners and stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment. Proactive approach to continuous learning and development in the sustainability field. Proficient in technical writing and presentation Possess good analytical and critical thinking skills Shows good initiative and takes ownership of work undertaken
