Description The Opportunity New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks an accomplished scholar and visionary leader to serve as its next Dean of the Division of Social Science. This is a rare opportunity to shape a dynamic academic division at a pivotal moment in the university’s evolution. The Dean will lead a vibrant community of scholars who advance foundational and applied research on some of the most pressing issues of our time - ranging from inequality, governance, and social change - within a highly international and interdisciplinary environment. The Division The Social Science Division is home to over 80 full-time faculty, including a Nobel Laureate in Economics and a vibrant community of post-doctoral researchers in Economics, Political Science, Social Research & Public Policy, Business Organizations & Society, and Legal Studies. The Division offers five undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs. Faculty conduct world-class research that is both theoretically rigorous and globally engaged, with collaborations spanning every continent and close ties to policy and practice in the UAE and beyond. The Division’s research strength is internationally recognized - Economics at NYUAD ranks 4th in Asia in Research Papers in Economics, and Political Science ranks 6th globally according to a recent study. Its faculty regularly publish in leading disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals. The Dean will have a unique opportunity to capitalize on this momentum: building on the Division’s existing strengths in graduate education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the global and local visibility of its research and teaching. About NYU Abu Dhabi Founded in partnership with New York University and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, NYUAD is an extraordinary achievement in global higher education. Since opening in 2010, it has become one of the most selective universities in the world with a 2025 admit rate of 2.7 percent, enrolling students from over 120 countries, NYU Abu Dhabi has produced 24 Rhodes Scholars. The Role The Dean reports to the Provost and serves as a key member of NYUAD’s senior leadership team. As the Division’s chief academic officer, the Dean will provide strategic leadership for its faculty, curricula, and research agenda, championing excellence and innovation in both research and pedagogy. The role also carries significant responsibility for fostering an accessible and collaborative academic community and for representing the Division’s strengths to partners within and beyond NYU. As part of the senior administration, the Dean must work effectively and collegially with other deans as well as academic and administrative leaders. In addition to engaging with members of the Division of Social Science, they must also be able to work with faculty across the institution. The Dean must be committed to two-way communication, to fostering trust, and to building community at the campus, national, and international levels. They will be internationally recognized scholars with proven leadership experience and intellectual breadth to guide a diverse division covering multiple disciplines. Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation. You would join a group of over 20 post-doctoral fellows and 70 faculty in the Division of Social Science. The post is a busy customer-facing role that is based across two areas- the main reception and the post room. You will be regularly interacting with students, contractors and visitors. You will need to to be used to using IT systems, answering phone calls, and quickly become familiar with the University processes and procedures. There are four other members of the team and you will need to be able to work Monday to Friday between 8am-4pm and 12pm-8pm depending on the rota. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. About the project: Difficulties in swallowing or chewing affect millions worldwide, especially among the elderly. We are currently conducting a research project to develop transitional foods which can make a positive impact on the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties.  This research position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of project investigators. We invite outstanding and talented candidates who are passionate about making a difference and have a strong desire to enhance their R&D competencies to apply. The primary role of this position is in the area of materials characterisation, focusing specifically on how foods break down due to oral forces and the effects of moisture and temperature. The work encompasses both experimental studies and modelling (finite element simulations). This position requires a strong aptitude in materials engineering, mechanics and data analysis. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct materials testing to characterise the mechanical and dissolution behaviour of foods Develop models based on micromechanical and macroscopic properties Document, publish and present research findings Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
