About Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences
Basic information and contact details for Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences
Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences (RUMS) was founded in 1986 by the Iranian Ministry of Health. In 1992 it became a full-fledged medical sciences university under its current name.
Situated in Rafsanjan, a city in Iran’s Kerman Province known for its pistachio agriculture and strategic position along transit routes, RUMS serves as an important regional healthcare and educational hub.
The university is organised academically into five schools: School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Paramedical Sciences, and the School of Public Health. It offers a wide range of degree programmes from professional doctorates in medicine and dentistry to bachelor’s programmes in nursing, radiology, and lab sciences, as well as master’s and PhD programmes across epidemiology, physiology, and biochemistry.
Education at RUMS is firmly integrated with clinical practice. The university supervises four teaching hospitals, including Ali Ibn Abi Talib Hospital, as well as numerous city and rural health centres serving Rafsanjan and neighbouring Anar county. These facilities support hands-on training and community outreach throughout the region.
Research is an important part of the university’s activity and is carried out in specialised centres throughout the academic year. These include the Molecular Medicine Research Centre, Immunology of Infectious Diseases Centre, Occupational Safety and Health Centre, and the Geriatric Care Research Centre.
RUMS operates a dedicated Foreign Student Office that supports all English and Persian-speaking programmes across medicine, dentistry, nursing, and allied medical sciences, while facilitating international student support and exchange initiatives.
