Quezon City University

Quezon City University was founded in 1994 in Quezon in the north-eastern part of Manila’s metropolitan area. The university was given full university status in 2021 after 20 years as Quezon City Polytechnic University.
It was established to supply the district with skilled and technical workers. It then began by offering three year courses in subjects such as welding, refrigeration and air-conditioning, and fashion. Degrees were offered from 2005 in entrepreneurial management, industrial engineering and information technology.
There are currently four colleges – business and accounting, computer science, engineering, and education – and three campuses. The main 4-hectare San Bartolomeo Campus, accessible by a number of bus routes, is supplemented by the San Francisco satellite campus and the Batasan Hills campus. 
The Centre for Professional and Continuing Education, offers certificate-level and short courses in a wide range of skills. The Centre for Urban Agriculture and Innovation, whose facilities include a bee farm, was opened in 2022.

Project Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our interdisciplinary team focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The selected candidate will have a vital role in an innovative project that aims to map the resistome and clarify the mechanisms of multidrug resistance across diverse microbiomes—comprising clinical, environmental, and host-associated microbial communities. This project seeks to comprehend how antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) disseminate within microbial populations via horizontal gene transfer (HGT) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and how these processes affect human health, particularly regarding colorectal cancer (CRC).

Key Responsibilities:


	Perform shotgun metagenomics and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) on microbial samples from various environments (clinical, environmental, tumor-associated microbiomes).
	Develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines for resistome, mobilome, and virulome profiling using tools such as MEGARes, CARD, VFDB, and PlasmidFinder.
	Investigate horizontal gene transfer (HGT) dynamics and plasmid-mediated dissemination of ARGs across microbial communities.
	Conduct phylogenetic and comparative genomic analyses to uncover the evolution of multidrug resistance in pathogenic bacteria.
	Analyze co-occurrence networks between resistance genes, virulence factors, and mobile elements in microbiome datasets.
	Collaborate with clinical partners and microbiome researchers to integrate multi-omics data for comprehensive resistome analysis.
	Publish high-quality research articles and present findings at international conferences.
	Contribute to grant writing and development of new research proposals.


Required Qualifications:


	PhD in Microbial Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Microbiology, Infectious Disease Biology, or a related field.
	Proven experience with high-throughput sequencing technologies (Illumina, Nanopore) and metagenomic analyses.
	Strong background in bioinformatics tools for microbiome analysis (QIIME2, Kraken2, MetaPhlAn) and AMR gene identification (MEGARes, CARD, ResFinder).
	Proficiency in Python, R, or Perl, with experience in Linux/Unix environments.
	Solid understanding of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, horizontal gene transfer, and mobile genetic elements.
	Evidence of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
	Excellent communication and teamwork skills.


Preferred Qualifications:


	Experience in clinical microbiome research, oncology microbiomes, or environmental resistome surveillance.
	Familiarity with spatial metagenomics, single-cell microbiome analysis, or multi-omics data integration.
	Knowledge of machine learning approaches for resistome prediction or biomarker discovery is a plus.

The CBS department of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is launching a call for applications for a post-doctoral fellowship specializing in magnetic/electromagnetic separation in solid and liquid matrices. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of the principles of magnetic separation and magnetic phenomena, as well as expertise in experimental methods to study the interactions between magnetic fields and solid and liquid materials. Additionally, knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of materials, particularly their magnetism, is required.

The postdoctoral fellow will join the CBS-IGSAC department where they will be responsible for participating in the conduct of a research program on the valorization of phosphate by-products and its derivatives. The focus will be on developing and executing studies on magnetic/electromagnetic techniques for the separation, concentration, recovery, or destruction of certain elements. Therefore, the chosen candidate will be expected to contribute to the performance of a wide range of scale-up studies of a magnetic and electromagnetic separation process to validate the selection of the appropriate design for treating, concentrating, and purifying the matrices under investigation.

Job Description:

The position is open to candidates with a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognized university. Applicants must demonstrate that their doctoral work and previous experience are related to one or more aspects of magnetic separation, particularly in the context of mineral processing or environmental applications. Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:


	Experience in the separation/purification of industrial effluents, particularly with electromagnetic/magnetic technologies.
	Proven experience in extracting valuable substances through magnetic separation methods.
	Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Fluency in English is a requirement.


Candidate Criteria:


	A PhD, or equivalent, in applied chemistry, physics, materials science, or a relevant discipline with a focus on magnetic separation of metal(loid)s.
	Strong familiarity with the magnetic properties of metal(loid)s and minerals, demonstrating the capability to separate them from complex matrices.
	Expertise in metal(loid)s speciation and their physicochemical properties.
	Good Background in magnetic and electromagnetic separation techniques and the scale-up process.
	Prior experience in selectively separating metal(loid)s from low-grade ores or by-products.

	Conduct scientific research within the project team.
	Train and supervise second- and third-year doctoral students to prepare them for their defense.
	Execute magnetic/electromagnetic separation experiments with precision and accuracy,

The Role

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

We are seeking to recruit a part-time research assistant (one day per week or equivalent) to assist with a project entitled “PROMISE: Improving Mental Health Supports for People with Multiple Sclerosis in Ireland”. This project, a partnership between academics, clinicians and knowledge users, with significant integrated public and patient involvement (PPI), aims to identify the characteristics of effective mental health supports for people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) and the strategies that can be implemented to improve the delivery of mental health services and supports for PwMS in Ireland. The PROMISE project is led by Principal Investigator (PI) Dr Rebecca Maguire in the Department of Psychology and the Assisting Living and Learning Institute, Maynooth University, funded by the Health Research Board in collaboration with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Ireland.

The appointed research assistant will be involved in assisting in the co-design of various studies across the project, under the supervision of the PI and in consultation with the PPI panel and other members of the research team. They will also help to co-develop lay summary reports and take a role in other knowledge translation activities according to their preference, including attending and co-presenting project findings in multi-stakeholder workshops.

The successful candidate will have a relevant undergraduate qualification in Psychology or a related discipline. Ideally, the successful candidate will have some lived experience of MS, and/or experience embedding public and patient involvement (PPI) in research. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with the research team in order to meet project milestones.

The researcher will be based in the Assisting Living and Learning Institute and the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University and will join a supportive community of interdisciplinary researchers.

Salary

Research Assistant (2025): €33,292 (0.2 FTE) per annum (with increment after 12 months)
