About the Job We are seeking to appoint a part-time (0.6 FTE; 3 days per week) Lecturer in Bioscience (Foundation Year) to join our dynamic team in the Department of Bioscience on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of teaching on our Foundation Year (Level 3) modules in bioscience, primarily across chemistry, biology, foundation mathematics, communication, professional and study skills. The role will also include the supervision of student research projects within the biosciences. Applicants should hold a good honours degree and a Master’s degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences, or a closely related bioscience discipline. Experience of teaching and/or supervising students in the further or higher education sector is essential, alongside a strong commitment to enhancing the student experience. A PhD (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant bioscience discipline is desirable but not essential. This role would be particularly suitable for candidates currently working in further education in the UK in biosciences, applied sciences or related disciples who are seeking to transition into the higher education sector, gain experience of teaching in a university environment, or undertake a secondment to support their academic career development. It may also appeal to individuals seeking a part-time academic role alongside other professional or personal commitments. General Requirements The department is interested in hiring a new Assistant Professor in ethics (broadly understood to include value theory, normative ethics, metaethics, and applied ethics) or in philosophy of AI. Candidates should have obtained, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in Philosophy, and possess a strong track record of publications in the top journals in the field. Candidates without publications will not be considered. The appointee is expected to produce internationally excellent research and obtain competitively awarded research grants. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or taught master’s level will be an advantage. The appointee is also expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to design and offer courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load will normally be four courses per year, which may be reduced under various circumstances, e.g. on receipt of external research funding or due to graduate supervision. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. Key Responsibilities Formulate and optimize legume-based protein beverages (e.g., soy, pea, faba bean protein) for desired taste, texture, and stability. Conduct experimental trials on protein extraction, solubility, and emulsification properties to improve product performance. Conduct proper Design of Experiments to evaluate the functionality of prototypes. Analyze shelf life of product and ensure compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. Evaluate sensory attributes (flavor, aroma, mouthfeel) and drive improvements based on consumer feedback. Scale up formulations from lab to pilot/industrial level. Troubleshoot formulation and processing challenges, including sedimentation, off-flavors, and shelf-life stability. Prepare and deliver scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress summaries, and final reports for funding bodies and key stakeholders. Communicate effectively with both internal teams and external partners to support meetings, technology transfer initiatives, conferences, and authorized communication platforms. Guide, supervise, and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars contributing to project activities. Any other ad hoc responsibilities assigned by supervisor. Key Requirements Bachelor’s in food science, Food Technology, or a closely related discipline. Knowledge on legume proteins, rheology and product development. Familiarity with sensory evaluation, texture analysis, and food chara. Highly detail-oriented and self-driven, with the capability to work both autonomously and collaboratively across diverse teams. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including effective coordination with vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
