About Public University of Navarre

Basic information and contact details for Public University of Navarre

The Public University of Navarre was founded in 1987 by the autonomous regional government of Navarre in North-East Spain. It describes itself "markedly technical" with a focus on engineering, health science, natural science, social science and law. The main medium of instruction is Spanish, but many courses are also offered in Basque (a language which is protected under the university statutes) and English. The main campus is close to the Osasuna football stadium in Pamplona. It is described as a "beautiful public park for the city" and boasts 89 different species of trees. A further campus was opened at Tudela, around 60 miles away, in 2008 while health sciences are concentrated on a site close to Pamplona’s main hospital. The university has been an strong promoter of strategic alliances, joining with the cities of Zaragoza, Lleida and Rioja to create the Campus Iberus. It was designated by the Ministry of Education in 2011 as a "Campus of International Excellence". It is also the base for the G-9 group of institutions which are the sole public universities in their autonomous regions, creator of the pioneering Shared Virtual Campus. There are a number of cultural courses at the university including a book club, a theatre group, astronomy club, debate club and many others. It also has six dedicated research centres, which include the Institute of Smart Cities, the Institute for Advanced Materials and Mathematics, the Institute on Innovation and Sustainable Development in Food Chain, the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Applied Biology and the Institute for Advanced Social Research.

Description The Future-Generation of Resilient and Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (Future-GRID TecH) in the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit one motivated post-doctoral associate (or research scientist for experienced candidates with 5 years of post-PhD experience). The candidate will work under the supervision of Future-GRID TecH director Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to carry out cutting-edge research in the broad area of future structures and resilient infrastructure systems with interest in applications of new and emerging technologies. Particular areas of interest include: structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, and composites) computational mechanics and structural topology optimization vision-based structural health monitoring autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring Successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Other related field such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Material Science are also welcomed. Required qualifications include: strong communication and presentation skills; a track record in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal publications; and previous or relevant experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student research or junior graduate students. A formal training, education, or certification in a secondary area (beyond the main PhD focus) such as additive manufacturing, advanced/hybrid manufacturing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, etc. is a plus. Other preferred qualifications include: expertise in programming and coding (preferably using Python and C++) and GUI development; expertise in computational mechanics and finite element simulation and modeling; expertise in laboratory and multi-scale experimental testing at the material, component, and structural levels. The candidates will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and undergraduate students, conduct high-quality “innovative and independent” experimental, analytical, and/or computational research, publish research work and results in scientific peer-reviewed journals and conferences, mentor undergraduate students, and participate in writing research grant proposals. In addition to postgraduate teaching, you will be expected to teach and mentor final-year (Level 6) undergraduate students enrolled in the dual bachelor's degree, including supervising their final year research projects. The teaching load is up to 20 class periods per week. Due to the profile of our students, who are often working professionals, teaching may be scheduled in the evenings or on weekends. You will also provide at least 6 class periods per week of office hours for student support and mentorship.
