Established in 1990, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) is a public university in Barcelona, Spain, the country’s Catalan capital. 

UPF is known for flexibility and dynamism. Studies at the university are increasingly customisable.

The university’s main strengths are its Social Sciences and Humanities, Health and Life Sciences and Communication and ICT.

UPF was commissioned by the Catalan Parliament to train young professionals and to improve Spain’s contributions to global research. 

The university is named for the linguist Pompeu Fabra, an expert on the Catalan language, credited with standardising this once-disused language and revising it, giving it the status it holds today. Catalan is the official language of UPF. Students wishing to learn Catalan tongue will have plenty of opportunity in Barcelona and around Pompeu Fabra.

Barcelona is a vibrant city and one of the top tourist spots in Europe, with its blue ocean, sandy beaches, museums, fashionable shops and Gaudi architecture. Gaudi’s masterpiece, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, dominates the city’s northern skyline.

UPF has three campuses around the city. Social and Human Sciences are studied at Ciutadella, Health and Life Sciences at Mar and Communication and Information Technologies at Poblenou.

The selected candidate will work on cutting-edge technologies in an excellent research environment, with a potential to work with a Quantum Computer through our collaboration partners, as well as in collaboration with other industrial partners. The Center possesses the unique possibility to investigate cutting-edge interdisciplinary questions within the theoretical and fundamental aspects of Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics, from various points of view and different abstraction levels. The selected candidate will also have great opportunities to work on interdisciplinary research problems with other postdocs of the center. We also expect successful applicants to do cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and work in synergy towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different areas. Ability to work and connect to more than one topic and having interdisciplinary perspective is an advantage, but disciplinary applications will be considered as well having a focus and in-depth expertise in a particular topic mentioned above. Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering. Expertise in Quantum Physics is a plus point. Applicants with a PhD in Quantum Physics are also welcome, but they should have a focus on Quantum Circuits, Quantum Algorithms, and preferably expertise in developing Software for Quantum Machines.The appointment will be for a period of two years, and extensions to longer terms are possible upon review. The terms of employment for these positions include a very competitive salary with additional attractive benefits, including generous housing allowance, medical insurance with access to world class facilities, annual home leave allowance, and (if applicable) dependent private school fees. Salaries are tax-free in the UAE (for US tax, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion can be used). The researchers will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, etc. and will have access to excellent world-class research facilities. Description The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for Postdoctoral Associate positions in the broad research areas of mathematical analysis and partial differential equations (PDEs). While all applicants with a background in the analysis of PDEs will be considered, candidates with prior experience in theoretical physics, fluid mechanics, kinetic theory, dispersive equations or harmonic analysis will be given special attention. Description The Prof. Sunil Kumar’s Research Group in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to develop AI-enabled healthcare applications. Key Responsibilities: Develop and fine-tune computer-vision models, instance segmentation, and retrieval-based estimation from images and text metadata. Build and evaluate monocular depth pipelines and implement multimodal retrieval with re-rankers for robust profile selection. Design and train advanced AI models for digital twin: 3D model learning, prediction models from imaging and molecular data, model-based simulation coupling, and uncertainty-aware outputs for lab/clinical validation. Work with 3D datasets, time-series sensors, and multi-omics or assay data to create predictive models and digital twin prototypes. Maintain reproducible code, experiments, and model/ dataset versioning; develop deployment artifacts (Docker, CI/CD scripts) and support cloud/HPC model training. Plan, run and analyze pilot studies (SME pilots and lab validation); participate in data collection, annotation and lab assay coordination. Write up results and contribute to publications, technical reports and presentations for academic and non-academic stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, applied mathematics, computational biology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline. Solid experience training and evaluating AI models. Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow). Experience with dataset curation, annotation workflows, FAISS/embedding retrieval, LLM-based parsing, RAG-style pipeline, and GPU/HPC training. Familiarity with 3D data processing or willingness to learn quickly. Publications, thesis work, or demonstrable projects in computer vision, multi-modal ML, digital twins or biomedical ML. Familiarity with uncertainty quantification and model explainability methods. Strong software engineering practices: Git, reproducible experiments, modular code, deploying models in cloud (AWS/GCP) and containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes). Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry funded research project where you will be part of the research team to develop advanced Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) scanning technologies. Job Responsibilities Participate in research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Undertake these responsibilities in the project:  i. Conduct comprehensive literature review on NQR technology, including design approaches, scanning methods, signal processing techniques, and comparison with alternative detection technologies. ii. Support design and development of NQR prototype, including system architecture, component selection, and experimental setup. iii. Conduct lab and site tests to evaluate the performance of NQR prototype. iv. Generate design documents and test documents at every stage of development until the final prototype. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.  Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Has a bachelor’s degree in Electronics; Specialization in RF/Microwave or Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is preferred. Has solid knowledge of electronics, including circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware troubleshooting. Has relevant competence in the areas of Radio Frequency design and measurement; Familiarity with high-power amplifier systems is a plus. Has relevant experience in the areas of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) design and implementation is a plus. Experience in electromagnetic simulation using CST Studio Suite and circuit simulation with PSpice, LTspice, or equivalent is an advantage. Experience with developing software for instrument control and data acquisition using LabVIEW is helpful. About us The Department of Psychosis Studies is the world’s leading department for research into psychotic disorders by high impact publications. It is part of the IoPPN; the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on psychiatry and mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2021). The IoPPN's greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff. About the role The postholder will join exciting new studies in the group. These include testing the synaptic hypothesis of psychosis and the role of excitation-inhibition balance in psychotic disorders and testing how the first non-D2 antipsychotics work. The studies involve in vivo imaging with cutting edge PET and fMRI techniques and clinical trials. The postholders will be responsible for recruitment and clinical assessment of participants with psychosis, including clinical rating scales and delivering a high level of care to research participants. They will be responsible for organising and acquiring imaging and other measures and producing scoping literature reviews. The postholders will be responsible for ensuring high quality research governance across projects, helping to analyse, interpret and publish the results of projects, as well as helping to support students who will be working on the projects. The postholders will be responsible for maintaining accurate records within a database that can be shared with members of the wider research team. They are also responsible for organising and overseeing weekly case and control tracking meetings, as well as quarterly steering group meetings. The postholders will be responsible for ensuring effective collaborative relationships with other research worders on the project, as well as with local clinical services and researchers on other related projects. The postholders will be responsible for contributing to knowledge exchange and dissemination activities such as organising and participating in scientific meetings and to support all other aspects of the projects as required. There will also be opportunities to get clinical experience. This is a full time (40 hours per week) however the department can consider part-time applications. You will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year (with the potential to extend/ develop a PhD; subject to funding).  Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
