Polytechnic University of the Philippines began as the Manila Business School in 1904. Some years later in 1978 it gained university status and its current name. The public, non-profit university specialises in commerce, business, and technology through undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. With over 20 campuses, it has Philippines largest student body. It’s main campus is located in Sta Mesa, Manila. The average class size is around 45-50 students, which is considerably less than standard lecture classes across Europe. Aware that its students have other responsibilities, the university arranges weekend and evening classes, and offers part-time, flexible programmes. Students can study across a wide range of programmes across its faculties: accountancy and finance; architecture, design and the built environment; arts and letters; business administration; communication; computer and information sciences; education; engineering; human kinetics; law; political science and public administration; social sciences and development; science; tourism, hospital and transportation management; and technology. There are a number of student organisations including dance, photography, chorus and interior design.

The project focuses on deciphering how imbalances in the gut microbiota contribute to chronic inflammatory conditions, colorectal cancer (CRC), and immune dysfunction, with an emphasis on discovering biomarkers and developing microbiome-based therapies. The research integrates multi-omics approaches (metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) to understand how dysbiosis influences immune responses, barrier function, and host metabolism. Key Responsibilities Lead metagenomic, proteomics, and metabolomic profiling of clinical and experimental samples to identify dysbiosis signatures. Apply bioinformatics tools for microbiome data analysis (ex, QIIME2, MetaPhlAn, Kraken2). Collaborate on multi-omics data integration and analysis. Contribute to manuscript writing, conference presentations, and grant applications. Required Qualifications PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline. Proven experience in microbiome research, particularly in gut microbiota. Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and omics data analysis. Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven retrosynthesis and reaction prediction. The successful candidate will develop advanced machine learning (ML) models to automate and optimize retrosynthetic analysis, facilitating the discovery of efficient and sustainable synthetic routes for complex molecules in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. The position provides a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of computational chemistry and AI, contributing to high-impact research with real-world applications in green chemistry and industrial synthesis. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement AI/ML models (e.g., graph neural networks, transformer-based models) for retrosynthetic pathway prediction. Apply deep learning techniques to predict reaction outcomes, optimize reaction conditions, and identify novel synthetic routes. Curate and manage reaction datasets from literature, patents, and proprietary sources to train and validate predictive models. Integrate retrosynthesis tools with cheminformatics platforms and molecular modeling software. Collaborate with synthetic chemists to experimentally validate predicted retrosynthetic routes and optimize laboratory workflows. Contribute to scholarly publications in high-impact journals and represent the research group in conferences and workshops. Mentor graduate students and participate in capacity-building activities within the research team. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Experience with cheminformatics tools (e.g., RDKit, Open Babel) and chemical reaction databases (e.g., Reaxys, USPTO, Pistachio). Understanding of organic synthesis and reaction mechanisms. Publication record demonstrating expertise in AI and computational chemistry. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment. Preferred Skills: Experience in graph-based learning, attention mechanisms, and transformer architectures applied to chemical data. Knowledge of computer-aided synthesis planning (CASP) tools and retrosynthetic analysis software (e.g., AiZynthFinder, ASKCOS, IBM RXN). This project focuses on designing and optimizing novel materials that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of converting biomass into valuable products such as biofuels and fine chemicals. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to contribute to the exploration of new materials and their applications in thermochemical and biochemical conversion processes. Main Responsibilities: Design, synthesize, and characterize advanced materials for biomass conversion. Conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of these materials in various conversion processes. Investigate the mechanisms of biomass conversion and the role of materials in enhancing reaction efficiency.  Analyze products and materials using advanced characterization techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, SEM, TEM, BET …). Write scientific reports, and research articles, and participate in conferences. Candidate Profile PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Strong background in materials synthesis and characterization. Experience with biomass conversion processes and catalytic systems is highly desirable.
