You will collaborate closely with experts at CERA and Melbourne Medical School, supervising students and shaping ambitious projects. You will strengthen your publication record and grant-writing portfolio within a highly resourced, innovation-driven research environment. What you will deliver: Conduct advanced in vivo and ex vivo imaging and microsurgery in rodents, focusing on retina, optic nerve and brain. Perform molecular, cellular and histological experiments, including AAV injections, tissue processing, immunostaining and stereological confocal image analysis. Develop and apply image and data analysis pipelines using ImageJ, R, MATLAB and relevant programming languages. Plan, troubleshoot and optimise experiments, maintain meticulous records, and prepare data, manuscripts and grant applications for dissemination. Supervise and train students and lab members, contributing to a safe, well-resourced and collegial laboratory environment. You may be a great fit if you: Hold a PhD in visual sciences, neuroscience or a closely related discipline. Demonstrate a strong publication or funding track record in visual science, neuroscience or related neurovascular fields. Bring substantial hands-on experience in rodent in vivo and ex vivo imaging, microsurgery, eye and brain dissection, and histology. Use advanced microscopy, ImageJ, R, MATLAB and core software such as Word, Excel, Prism and Adobe tools. Exhibit strong organisational skills, independence, problem-solving ability and adaptability within a fast-paced research environment. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This project focuses on federated causal inference in heterogeneous data environments, addressing the challenge of enabling trustworthy causal analysis across distributed datasets while preserving privacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel federated learning strategies for causal inference. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on algorithm design and development on real-world datasets. The core responsibility is to build and validate federated causal inference algorithms through simulations and live demonstrations. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of novel performance metrics for federated causal inference algorithms. Analysis of causal inference models in federated settings using synthetic and real-world datasets. Design and development of novel federated causal inference algorithms and associated software APIs. Validation of algorithms via simulations and live demonstrations. Job Requirements A Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent. Strong theoretical background in statistics and machine learning. Knowledge of the basics of federated learning and causal inference is highly encouraged. Proven track record in research and development of machine learning algorithms. Proficiency in algorithm development using Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35%) ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR The field of the position is medical genetics and the language of instruction is Swedish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage. The professorship in medical genetics is associated with a research director’s position at Folkhälsan Research Centre. Applicants must submit separate applications for the professorship and the research director’s position. An appointee to the position of assistant professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience.
