Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University was officially established as a national university in 2016. However, its history can be traced back to the establishment of the Mykolaiv branch of the National university of Kyiv Mohyla Academy. The university is located in Mykolaiv, a city in southern Ukraine. There are five faculties within the university: faculty of physical education and sport, faculty of computer science, faculty of economics, faculty of political science, and the faculty of law. There are also four institutes: medical institute, institute of philology, institute of public administration, and the postgraduate institute. The postgraduate institute opened in 2002 and offers advanced training, retraining and part-time education. Outside the classroom students can join one of the university’s 13 specialised sports clubs. Among them are martial arts, underwater sports, volleyball and badminton. The university is fully equipped with three sports halls and a fitness centre available for students to use to practice their sports or for regular exercise. The International Relations Office is responsible for overseeing the university’s international activity and developing partnerships with other higher education institutions across the globe. The university currently has partnerships with countries such as France, Germany, the US, Switzerland and Poland. Research at the university is carried out a number of research centres and institutes. These include the Research Laboratory of Alternative Energy Sources and the Centre of Sociological Research.

Applications are now invited for the following post: Research Assistant Professor Division of Science (Post Ref.: 26/129) The Division of Science (formerly known as Science Unit) (DoS) was established in 2015, comprising a dedicated team of scholars and researchers with expertise in biodiversity conservation, ecology, and sustainability analytics. The DoS offers 4 programmes in the field of environmental science and sustainability, including: (1) Minor in Environmental and Scientific Literacy; (2) MPhil in Environmental Science; (3) PhD in Environmental Science and (4) Master of Science in Sustainability and Environmental Analytics. Apart from teaching and research, the DoS is highly engaged in community outreach and knowledge transfer activities. We promote science education and sustainable development through immersive field visits and internships, citizen science initiatives, and Service-Learning projects. The Division of Science (DoS) invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor in Geoinformatics. We seek an outstanding and well-rounded scholar with expertise in geoinformatics, geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or related fields. The successful candidate is expected to obtain externally funded research projects, publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to teaching and student supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a liberal arts setting. The appointee should also have the ability to develop and manage geospatial applications and to work with NGOs and external partners in support of knowledge transfer, applied research, and professional service. General Requirements Candidates should have (1) a PhD/Post-doctoral experience in the field of geography, GIS, remote sensing, GeoAI, or a related discipline; (2) relevant postdoctoral and/or independent research experience; (3) a good publication record in peer-reviewed, international journals; (4) a track record in competitive grant applications and fundings; (5) the ability to contribute to the Division of Science’s teaching at all levels, student supervision, outreach, knowledge-transfer, and services; (6) experience in developing, managing, and applying geospatial applications, tools, or platforms; and (7) the ability to contribute to the university’s goal of producing socially significant research that informs sustainable development. Candidates should have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment.
