About the Role As we kick-start the 2026 academic year in our brand new iconic, state of the art Healthcare Simulation Laboratories located in the convenient Adelaide CBD, we are looking for a Senior Technical Officer (Team Leader) to lead a team of passionate technical officers. In this role, will lead the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratories, ensuring the smooth delivery of simulation-based learning across programs. You will also have the opportunity to coordinate team activities, allocate workloads, and work collaboratively with other Team Leaders and the Senior Manager – Healthcare Simulation across campuses to manage staffing, rostering, stock control and operational needs. The Senior Technical Officer (Team Leader) will also be responsible for planning and preparing laboratory environments for clinical simulation workshops in line with course requirements, working closely with academic staff, and laboratory teams. The role will provide expert technical support, including demonstrating simulation equipment, procedures, and techniques to ensure safe and effective learning experiences for students. The role also involves overseeing the quality and readiness of clinical laboratory setups, maintaining a strong student-centred focus which makes a significant contribution to the University’s strategic plan to changing 10 million lives, Every One Matters, by 2035 and aligns to Strategic Driver of Students First. During intensives, the incumbent will be expected to work a variety of shifts within a set roster, ranging from 7:30am – 3:30pm, 8:00am – 4pm and 12:30 – 8:30pm, with the occasional shift ending at 10:00pm. About You You contribute effectively within a team environment and step into a functional supervisory role when required. You communicate confidently and professionally, with strong interpersonal and oral communication skills that enable you to provide clear information and advice to a diverse range of staff and give practical guidance to students. Your written communication skills are equally strong, allowing you to prepare clear correspondence and respond to enquiries independently and with sound judgement. You are highly organised and capable of planning and managing complex workflows, meeting strict deadlines, and balancing competing priorities - particularly during high-demand or peak periods. You will also be able to demonstrate the following: Qualification in Nursing / Midwifery / Health Science / Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and training relevant to the position. Proven knowledge and experience in clinical health care settings encompassing all levels of patient acuity. Experience with clinical teaching and assessment set up, including knowledge of and familiarity with equipment used for clinical teaching purposes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to apply these skills to topic administration, rostering and timetabling. You will lead on and deliver a range of high-quality teaching materials and associated student assessment activities, as well as making a significant contribution to the planning, design and development of modules, programmes and curriculum innovation. You will also engage in high-quality research and relevant professional and knowledge exchange activities as part of the School of Nursing, Public and Allied Health’s continued development. You must be a registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), educated to Masters level (or currently studying towards one) and have significant experience within paramedic practice, including experience of supervising, mentoring or supporting pre-registration paramedic students or trainees. The role is based in a modern clinical skills simulation lab, essential for delivering practical workshops and ensures the lab is prepared according to course needs and supports teaching by providing technical advice, equipment demonstrations, and procedural guidance. Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment, managing stock control, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. The role requires liaising with the Senior Manager, Healthcare Simulation, and broader team. Additional duties include stepping in for the Team Leader or Laboratory Manager when needed, training staff on simulation equipment, resolving IT and AV issues promptly, and maintaining accurate records of simulation software, licences, and equipment updates to ensure optimal functionality and minimal disruption to learning.
