A Research University
University has recently created and further developed a number of top research institutes where hundreds of international experts are employed, involving students during their studies to participate in the research.
Biomedicine, biotechnology and new materials are the main focus of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine specialising in research on neoplastic and infectious diseases, and the development of new diagnostic procedures and medications. The institute is part of the European Research Infrastructure EATRIS.
Researchers at the Centre of the Haná Region for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research are among the world’s leading experts. Their achievements range from the genetic engineering of barley to sequencing the wheat genome.
The Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials focuses on chemical and optical research. Its researchers participate in international applications of nanotechnologies in groundwater treatment and research on the essence of matter at CERN. They also install optical elements for the detection of high-energy cosmic radiation at observatories.
The influence of German intellectuals on Czech culture has been mapped by the Centre for Research of German-Moravian Literature at the Faculty of Arts. Important works of European Christian culture are popularised by the Centre for Patristic, Medieval and Renaissance Texts at Sts Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology. Scientists endeavour to better understand the molecular basis of human infectious diseases and cancer. Research is aimed at identifying new biomarkers and therapeutic goals.
Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials
RCPTM is a modern centre for research and development of nanomaterials and chemicals that may find application in medicine, biotechnologies, the food industry, and environmental protection. Excellent results have also been achieved by the RCPTM optics experts, who peer into the world of photons and quantum information processing and explore the mysteries of cosmic radiation.
Centre of the Region Haná for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research
Centre of the Region Haná is a collaborative project of the Faculty of Science at Palacký University and Olomouc branches of the Institute of Experimental Botany at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Crop Research Institute.
