The Position We are seeking distinguished scholars with proven record of excellence in research, teaching, knowledge exchange, along with a strong commitment and managerial competence to support the Faculty’s expanding research portfolio and clinical and teaching activities. The appointees are expected to play a key role in leading the respective School in achieving the highest standard of quality in all aspects of its teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and professional engagement programmes, fostering academic collaboration within and outside the Faculty/University, and pursuing new strategic directions for the further development of the School. The Person Director of the School of Chinese Medicine Applicants should possess the following: a recognized undergraduate degree in Chinese Medicine registrable with the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong and a Ph.D. degree in Chinese Medicine or related fields; a distinguished track record of research and scholarship in the field of Chinese Medicine; substantial experience in teaching in tertiary institution(s); substantial practicing experience; evidence of international recognition for scholarship and professional expertise; a track record of community engagement; an understanding of the East Asia context, particularly Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland; and proficiency in both Chinese and English. What We Offer The successful candidates should possess the stature of a Full Professor at a research-intensive institution. Appointment as Tenure-track Clinical Professor/Professor and Director of the respective School will be made, to commence as soon as possible, on a five-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. Exceptionally outstanding candidates may be considered for appointment with the Chair Professor title and/or on tenure terms. Re-appointment to the headship will be subject to the University's established procedures. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department belongs to the School of Science and focuses on Chemistry and Materials Science. It has recruited faculty from globally distinguished institutions working in these disciplines. Although relatively young, the Department has already established a solid reputation, as indicated by its large number of high quality research publications in impactful journals (Q1),  growing number of grant awards to its staff (e.g., from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and major industry partners) and national and international research collaborations. It has state-of-the-art instrumentation housed in custom-built labs, and provides excellent technical support. Current research areas include: Advanced materials, High-performance batteries and supercapacitors, Nano porous materials, Microfluidic-based biosensors, Nano-electrocatalysts - Energy nanomaterials, Biomaterials and their biomedical applications, High-throughput screening, Carbohydrates Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry, and AI/Robotics for Chemistry among others. The Department is dedicated to providing an international environment for both teaching and research, with around half of its academic staff born out of mainland China. The Department also collaborates closely with the newly established Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC), a university-level research center specialized in the development and application of novel materials.
