Osaka University of Economics is a private university in Osaka, Japan. It was originally founded in 1932 as Naniwa Higher Commercial School. During World War II, most of the students were enlisted leading to the creation of Osaka Women's College of Economics. Later in 1946 the school was reorganised into Osaka College of Economics. In 1949, Osaka College of Economics was renamed as the Osaka University of Economics. The university has programmes in the faculty of economics, faculty of business administration, graduate school (master's degree course in economics), doctoral degree course in economics, faculty of information management and faculty of human sciences. The Kitahama campus was established in 2005 and is where the business school is located. It is also home to the university's research centres in the economic history of Japan, and small business research and administration.

In this role, you will undertake high quality research in the general area of Mechatronics, to supervise research and to teach in areas compatible with the interests and activities of the department. Candidates working in or having interest in intelligent mechatronic devices and systems are encouraged to apply. The SIPROME project investigates how professions and the socio-environmental and geographical situatedness of work environments in the ancient Roman Empire contributed to the spatial spread of ancient cults. Using computational methods, the project examines how the occupational risks faced by inhabitants of the Roman Empire influenced their choice of preferred cults. The main methods used in the project include spatial analysis, predictive modelling, statistics, and the analysis of geocoded data, especially of epigraphic and archaeological origin. MAIN JOB CONTENT Framework Conducting research in cooperation with the project team. Publishing research results in academic journals and disseminating ongoing research findings at conferences and other public events. Independent work as well as collaboration with other members of the project team. Content of the research activity: Mathematical modeling and statistical data analysis. Evaluating data as potential predictors explaining the spatial distribution of archaeological or epigraphic finds (e.g., analysis of variance, correlation, regression, maximum entropy models). Research Fellow in Geophysics

We seek a Research Fellow with a proven publication record to apply novel approaches to integration of seismic velocity and resistivity models derived from a recently acquired coincident wide-angle seismic, controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) and magnetotelluric (MT) dataset. We are particularly looking for someone with skills in the application of rock physics models to seismic and/or resistivity data but will also consider applicants with experience more focused in relevant geophysical data analysis. The Research Fellow will join an international team in the project “Quantifying evolution of magmatism and serpentinization during the onset of seafloor spreading”, funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council and the US National Science Foundation. The overall aim of this project is to quantify the evolution of serpentinisation and magmatism at a magma-poor rifted margin as seafloor spreading is initiated. Serpentinised mantle rocks are generally more conductive, often by about an order of magnitude, than mafic crustal rocks, so CSEM and MT techniques provide a promising route to resolve controversies around lithospheric structure. In August-September 2023, we conducted the first joint CSEM, MT and seismic experiment in the continent-ocean transition at a rifted margin, to determine how competing processes of magmatism and serpentinisation evolve during the initiation of seafloor spreading. We focused our work at the sediment-starved Goban Spur rifted margin southwest of the UK, which is uniquely suited to such a study because of its thin sediment cover, narrow continent-ocean transition and existing covering with deep seismic reflection data. The position is based in the School of Ocean and Earth Science, which is located at the University of Southampton’s Waterfront Campus at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton.
