Founded in 1909 as Ohtani Women’s Dress-Making School, Osaka Ohtani Univesity went through a series of incarnations before emerging in 1966 as Ohtani Women’s University. It has continued to evolve since, with the most significant changes being the shift to co-education and acquisition of its current name in 2006. It is located in Tondabayashi, a district of Osaka which claims that its annual Perfect Liberty Firework Festival is the largest in the world and in which students are surrounded by history. Since 2007 the university has collaborated with Tondayashi City on a variety of staff and student training exchanges and to produce Child Information, the city’s magazine for children. A satellite campus was opened around 15 miles away in the new 300m tall Harukas building, Japan’s tallest building, in the Tennoji district in 2014. Formally a Buddhist institution, its founding principle was that of "repaying gratitude" and that there should be "a sense of closeness between student and teacher and between students themselves". As a women-only institution it sought to "foster women in leadership abilities" and now sees itself as "a university which brings students together and nurtures the strength to overcome a difficult age". Students are divided between the faculties of literature, education, humanities and pharmacy. Pharmacy, founded in 2006, is notably strong in research and started to offer doctorates in 2019. The majority of international students come from China, Vietnam and South Korea, which also accounts for four of its 10 international agreements, the most recent with Woosong University in 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will work closely with the Supervisor and the core research team. The main duties include: Leading and contributing to a targeted research project, topics including climate policy, economics and governance. Designing, developing, and continually refining robust research instruments and methodologies. Coordinating comprehensive data collection processes and executing rigorous data analysis. Supporting the planning, organization, and execution of academic and public dissemination events, such as seminars, workshops, and conferences. Assisting in drafting high-quality academic papers, policy briefs, and project progress reports. Performing other research and administrative duties as assigned to support the Institute's objectives. Requirements A Ph.D. degree in Environmental Economics, Public Policy, Geographical Sciences or a highly related discipline. A minimum of one year of relevant post-doctoral or professional working experience in a related field. An excellent command of both written and spoken English. A demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight project deadlines. The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver on a research project to develop an End-to-end misinformation and disinformation protection, awareness and mitigation pipeline. We will be recruiting a research engineers or fellows, as part of a wider project, to conduct research on: Signal processing combined with AI-based modification on speech signals. The need is for a real-time system, so efficient coding is important. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to lead the storm surge modelling in the Singapore Sea. As a specialist in wave modelling software, the successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects related to coastal and ocean wave modelling using Delt3D software. The role of the researcher is to perform physics-based modeling to build a numerical model that can predict storm surges in Singapore coastlines based on different weather conditions. The researcher will also work with team members within the consortium in generating necessary data required for developing a machine learning model for storm surge prediction. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Delft3D and SWAN Modelling: Utilize Delft3D and SWAN software to develop and validate numerical models for wave propagation, storm surge modelling, and coastal dynamics. Building up of a database of sea level anomaly with extreme weather conditions: Utilize the developed numerical model to build a database of sea level anomaly with different weather conditions, which can be used to develop a data-driven model for storm surge prediction. Data Analysis: Process and analyze climate, ocean wave and coastal data to improve model accuracy. Research: Conduct research to enhance wave modelling techniques and contribute to the advancement of coastal engineering and oceanography. Impact Assessment: Evaluating the potential impacts of storm surges on coastal regions, including flood risk assessments and vulnerability analyses. Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and oceanographers. Reporting: Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals and present results at conferences. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Assists in co-supervision of Final Year Projects (FYP) or capstone projects students together with the project PI. The employee is to communicate with any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any adhoc duties assigned. Requirements PhD or Master degree in a related field with a focus on coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics. Proficiency in wave modeling software, particularly Delft3D and SWAN. Acting as liaison with a wide range of university academic and professional staff to ensure the provision of an effective and efficient service within available resources including appropriate referrals to other university services, including Health, Counselling and Disability, you will also provide support to the Access and Outreach Project Officer for outreach activities run by YSE.
