Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University was founded in 1927 as Osaka Senior High School of Medicine. In 1946 it was granted university status and became Osaka Medical College. The college was renamed Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University in 2021 following the merger with Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The university is located in Takatsuki, a city in Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
The Osaka Medical College Hospital was originally founded in 1930. In 1994 it became an Advanced Treatment Hospital and today is the Perinatal Centre for Mother and Child. It currently has 882 beds and provides students with the opportunity to gain hands on practical experience while offering treatment to the local community.
In 2018 the university established the Kansai BNCT Medical Centre which provides medical care, specialising in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. This cancer treatment uses the chemical element boron to treat cancers that are often difficult to treat using conventional therapies such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
