Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. This role supports applied food processing research projects with strong industry relevance, focusing on product development, process optimization, and project management. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage applied food processing related research projects in collaboration with Principal Investigators, Co-PIs, and industry partners. Lead applied research on mushroom-, mycelium-, and plant‑based (PB) protein ingredients, with emphasis on improving nutrition, flavour, digestibility, and techno‑functional performance. Design and execute physicochemical and biological processing strategies for protein enhancement, including thermal (UHT, ohmic heating), non‑thermal (ultrasound, high‑pressure homogenisation, microwave, pulsed electric fields), and solvent‑shifting approaches (pH and salt shifting). Evaluate and integrate green processing technologies, including deep eutectic solvents, for protein extraction, off‑taste reduction, and sustainability‑driven process optimisation. Lead the process design for scale-up fractionation and separation from bench-top, to pilot plant scale production involving centrifugation, clarification, recovery and separation of supernatant, and drying process. Support AI‑enabled data analysis, including collaboration on Artificial Neural Networks and Gaussian Process modelling, to accelerate processing optimisation. Consolidate experimental, techno‑economic, and sustainability data into robust technical evidence packages for project reporting, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory or translational decision‑making. Coordinate project timelines, milestones, budgets, procurement of consumables and equipment, and compliance with grant and institutional requirements. Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress updates, and final deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders. Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators to support progress meetings, reporting, and technology transfer activities. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars involved in the projects. Support dissemination of research outcomes through conferences, stakeholder meetings, and approved communication channels. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Strong Master’s degree holders with relevant experience may be considered. Strong technical background in protein functionality, structure–function relationships, and food biopolymer systems, particularly in plant‑ and fungal‑derived proteins. Demonstrated experience with food processing technologies, including thermal and non‑thermal treatments, fermentation, extrusion, or texturisation methods. Working knowledge of process optimisation tools (e.g. RSM) and familiarity with data‑driven or AI‑assisted modelling approaches is an advantage. Experience in pilot‑scale processing, scale‑up assessment, or techno‑economic evaluation of food ingredients or processes. Hands-on experience in processing trials, analytical characterization, and data interpretation. Ability to translate complex experimental outcomes into industry‑relevant insights, supporting product development, clinical study readiness, and market‑facing prototypes. Strong project ownership mindset, with the ability to balance scientific depth, cost, scalability, and industrial feasibility. Experience working with industrial collaborators, pilot-scale facilities, or product development teams is highly advantageous. Strong scientific writing skills, with experience in preparing manuscripts, technical reports, and funding-related documentation. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Good communication and stakeholder management skills, including liaison with vendors, suppliers, and external partners.

Dean of Research The Dean of Research is a new senior leadership position within the Sharjah Education Academy. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership to shape and guide SEA’s research strategy. The Dean of Research will ensure that the Academy’s research is rigorous, socially relevant, and regionally transformative. The role is one of three Dean positions (Dean of Research, Dean of Education, Dean of Continuous Professional Learning) reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and will work collaboratively with other senior administrators and academic leaders to develop and implement the Academy’s research strategy and plan, build research capability across the institution and establish a strong, distinctive doctoral program. The incumbent will be an established and dynamic academic leader with a distinguished track record in research leadership in an education-related field. The Dean of Research will play a pivotal role in driving SEA’s impact on education transformation nationally and within the GCC region. Experience in the UAE/GCC region and bilingual proficiency (Arabic and English) will be highly regarded. Key Responsibilities include: Research strategy and leadership: Develop and execute the Academy's research strategy, promote a strong research culture, and increase research activity and performance in the Academy’s core area of focus. Research quality: Develop, monitor and evaluate research quality across the Academy. Capability building: Lead the development and implementation of research capability and doctoral supervision programs aligned to international good practice. Funding and resource management: Secure local and international research funding and partnerships to drive the Academy’s Strategic vision and plan, manage research budgets, and oversee grant submissions and research project proposals. Postgraduate research: Oversee higher degree by research (HDR) programs, coordinate admissions, and support research capability building programs for staff and students. Collaboration and partnerships: Facilitate cross-institutional collaboration, and build relationships with industry, government, and other external stakeholders to enhance research impact. Institutional effectiveness: Coordinate with other Academy leaders to align research initiatives with institutional planning and to measure and report on research outcomes. Representation and advocacy: Represent the Academy on research-related committees and at national and international forums.  Required qualifications and skills: Academic credentials: A PhD in a relevant field to the Academy’s work  and a strong research track record, ideally in quantitative/mixed method education related research. Strategic thinking: The ability to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with institutional priorities. Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams and provide strategic direction. Communication: High-level interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills and experience leading initiatives with diverse stakeholders. This role supports an awarded applied research project on cricket protein (CP)-based functional beverages, focusing on protein chemistry, emulsion engineering, scalable food processing, and consumer acceptance. The appointee will contribute to SIT's sustainable food innovation agenda, working within a multidisciplinary team with access to established research platforms and pilot-scale facilities. Key Responsibilities Characterise insect protein and their hydrolysates for compositional and techno-functional properties under different processing conditions (enzymatic hydrolysis, heating, drying, homogenization) Investigate the impact of food processing on protein-polysaccharide interactions under different food processing conditions. Profile phenolic compound and evaluate the bio-functional properties such as antioxidant activity Identify optimal processing conditions that minimise bioactive losses for functional beverage applications. Design and formulate insect protein-based oil-in-water emulsions for the encapsulation and delivery of bioactives. Develop and optimise functional beverage prototypes that are suitable for industry-scale beverage manufacturing and evaluate their emulsion stability and estimated shelf-life. Conduct in vitro bioaccessibility and bioavailability studies for encapsulated nutrients using existing SIT analytical facilities. Support the design and execution of consumer surveys assessing Singapore consumers' acceptance of foods and beverages. Perform principal component analysis (PCA) and multivariate statistics to identify relationships between demographic factors and product acceptance and integrate findings as feedback for beverage formulation. Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and progress updates for funding agencies, journals, and stakeholders. Present findings at project meetings, industry engagements, and academic conferences. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, research assistants, and students attached to the project. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Chemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a closely related discipline. Strong master's or bachelor's degree holders with substantial relevant research experience may be considered for the Engineer grade. Solid grounding in protein chemistry, protein hydrolysis, and structure–function relationships in food systems. Hands-on experience in emulsion formulation and stability characterisation, including droplet size analysis and shelf-life assessment. Familiarity with food processing technologies such as HTST, UHT pasteurisation, drying, heating, and high-pressure or multi-stage homogenisation in beverage or liquid food systems. Working knowledge of biochemical and antioxidant assay methods, HPLC, MS, and their application in food ingredient analysis. Experience with in vitro digestion models and bioaccessibility or bioavailability testing is a strong advantage. Ability to perform quantitative data analysis and multivariate statistics (e.g., PCA); proficiency in Origin, R, or equivalent software for statistical analysis. Strong scientific writing skills with the ability to produce publication-quality manuscripts and clear technical reports. Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple experimental and reporting workstreams simultaneously. Collaborative and able to work independently within a multidisciplinary applied research environment. Your role and goals  Your role will be to develop and share expertise on understanding and managing ship motions and loads in real operating conditions throughout the lifecycle of a ship. This is essential for safer, more energy-efficient ships: Current design practices often rely on simplified assumptions that misrepresent the lifetime environmental loads, which affects the performance, structural safety, energy system sizing, and operability of the ship.
