Ordu University was founded in Turkey in 2006, following the merger of several academic units from Ondokuz Mayıs University and Karadeniz Technical University. It brought together faculties, institutes, vocational schools and other academic entities to offer new educational programmes. The university offers various faculties and institutes where students can study at all levels of further education, including dentistry, education, marine sciences, arts and sciences, fine arts, theology, music and performing arts, health sciences, sport sciences and tourism. It also includes the Unye faculty of economics and administrative sciences, faculty of medicine and faculty of agriculture. Additionally, there is a graduate school of natural and applied sciences, an institute of health sciences and an institute of social sciences for further study. Ordu University is steadily strengthening its infrastructure. With the introduction of wireless internet, online libraries, databases, distance education and IP radio and television broadcasting facilities, the university is committed to supplying a cutting-edge learning experience. We are seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher in Structural Health Monitoring and Condition Assessment of Bridges to join the Structural and Bridge Engineering Research Group in the Department of Civil Engineering at Aalto University. Your role and goals The successful candidate will conduct doctoral research at the intersection of structural engineering and artificial intelligence. The research will focus on advancing methods for monitoring, assessing, and managing civil infrastructure through innovative sensing technologies and data-driven approaches. The research topics include: Structural health monitoring of bridges and other civil infrastructure Finite element analysis Laboratory and field-based structural testing and data acquisition Direct and indirect sensing methods for bridges, including remote sensing techniques Machine learning and artificial intelligence for infrastructure condition assessment Damage detection and software/application development for structural assessment The doctoral degree will be awarded upon successful completion of advanced doctoral coursework (30 ECTS), preparation of an article-based doctoral dissertation, and a successful public defence of the thesis. During the duration of the doctoral studies, the researcher will be expected to present publish in leading academic journals and high-level scientific conferences, engage in teaching-related duties, actively participate in the research group activities, assist in the preparation of new research proposals, and help to advise master’s students during the preparation of their final project. The research will involve extensive large-scale structural testing in both laboratory and field environments, as well as the development and application of direct and indirect (e.g., drive-by) structural health monitoring approaches. This recruitment supports the establishment of the new Department of Clinical Medicine, which will focus on precision‑based disease management, clinical technology innovation, and medical quality and safety systems. As part of UM’s broader academic development plan, the University is undertaking a major structural expansion through the restructuring and establishment of five faculties in science and technology. Among them, the Faculty of Medicine (FMD) will be formed based on relevant programmes within the current Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS). Building on three established departments─Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Public Health and Medicinal Administration─FMD is establishing a new Department of Clinical Medicine (DCM). Its core purpose will be to drive synergies of practice across the entire Estate and Facilities Management Division, managing customer experience, governance and operational safety, bringing coherence via Business Partnering to how activity relates to broader institutional objectives. It will drive connectivity to faculties, schools, and departments to support academic and professional service delivery. You will need 5 GCSE’s at grades A* to C or equivalent qualification, or proven track record of previous work experience in a relevant role or relevant life experience. Experience of delivering excellent customer service and using Microsoft Office applications are essential.
