The position

The professorship will focus on language acquisition in the Romance languages (L1, L2, foreign language acquisition, multilingualism) both in research and teaching. We expect a PhD in this field of research covering at least one of the three languages French, Italian and Spanish. The candidate is expected to represent at least two, ideally all three languages in research and teaching. The candidate should have experience and competences that cover both language acquisition theories and empirical methods of language acquisition research.

The professorship is part of a research-active department with a high potential for cooperation in the fields of language acquisition, in particular multilingualism, language contact and foreign language acquisition. University of Vienna is offering a PhD position (University Assistant, Praedoc) at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research. The position is intended to support a young researcher in their doctoral studies. The position (30 hours/week) is based on a 3-year contract with the option of extending for a further year.

The successful applicant will be admitted to the department Ph.D. program and will work on the development and analysis of statistical methods for machine learning, particularly in the context of high-dimensional models and with a particular focus on methods such as jackknife and conformal inference. They will also gain teaching experience in the Department Bachelor's and Master's programs. (Teaching will be governed by the collective bargaining agreement).

The position

International migration and mobility are transforming democratic politics across Europe and beyond. These issues lie at the heart of today’s political debates, influencing power dynamics and necessitating new approaches to policymaking at all levels of government.

We are looking to hire a tenure-track professor who is passionate about understanding the political dimensions of migration and citizenship. We welcome applications from excellent candidates researching at least one of the following aspects of migration: ethnic, cultural or religious diversity; migrants’ political participation and representation; or the role of gender and human rights in shaping migration regimes. We expect the candidate to be committed to cutting-edge research and teaching at all levels (BA, MA and PhD).

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research in the field of migration and citizenship studies which is evidenced by empirical work on the basis of solid methodological skills.

The Department of Political Science is a vibrant and intellectually diverse community of scholars. Our research covers important topics such as comparative politics, politics and gender, international politics, political theory, global health, and sustainability and climate change. The Strategic Management Subject Area within the Department commenced its operations in 2012. In steady state, our team consists of approximately 10 people from four different nationalities. Jointly, we investigate questions pertaining to strategic decision-making in organizations and related performance implications. We are particularly interested in behavioral aspects pertaining to organizational design decisions relevant to firms operating in (technologically) innovative environments. We are agnostic to methods and pursue formally analytical, simulation-based, ethnographic, large-scale empirical as well as experimental techniques, with a focus on the latter two.

Our publications have appeared in the finest management outlets, such as the Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Production and Operations Management, Research Policy, and the Strategic Management Journal, to mention but a few. Our research was funded by several agencies, and we regularly host conferences and seminars featuring colleagues from all over the globe.
