Óbuda University is a practice-oriented technical university in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 2000 as the Budapest Tech following the merger of three polytechnic universities (Bánki Donát Technical College, Kandó Kálmán Technical College, Light Industry Technical College). It was given university status on the 1st of January 2010 under the name of Óbuda University. One of the most famous alumni of the University was József Galamb, the chief designer at the Ford Motor Company and designer of the Ford Model T.
The university is made up of six different faculties which includes: Alba Regia Technical Faculty (AMK), Donát Bánki Faculty of Mechanical and Safety Engineering (BGK); Kálmán Kandó Faculty of Electrical Engineering (KVK); Kálmán Kandó Faculty of Electrical Engineering (KVK); John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics (NIK); Sándor Rejtő Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Protection Engineering (RKK) and Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering (YMK).
The university has four doctoral schools: Applied Informatics and Applied Mathematics; Safety and Security Sciences; Material Sciences and Technologies and Innovation Management Doctoral School. The university has eight research, innovation and service centres supporting and managing innovation, R&D and education with the most significant robotics research facilities for medical, industrial and general service robotic applications.
The university has four locations in Budapest, Campus Óbuda on the Buda side and Campus Józsefváros on the Pest side of the city and 1 location in Székesfehérvár.
The institution has strong links with a number of universities in 56 countries across the world and in 275 higher education institutions. There are several students and academic international exchange programs and scholarships available.
There are plenty of areas of historical and cultural sights to see in and around Budapest, where students can spend their spare time such as the Buda Castle, the Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Margaret Island, and relaxing Thermal Spas.
