North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences (NKUMS) is the leading public medical education institution in Iran’s North Khorasan province. Established in 1991 as a regional medical school and formally designated a University of Medical Sciences in May 2008, NKUMS was created to serve the healthcare and education needs of the province after its 2004 formation.
It is situated in Bojnord, the vibrant capital city of North Khorasan.
NKUMS is organised into seven schools and faculties: medicine, dentistry, nursing and midwifery, public health, and paramedicine, alongside satellite branches in Shirvan and Esfarayen, plus regional medical centres and hospitals serving local communities. 
The university’s mission is centred on producing highly qualified health professionals and enhancing regional public health through education and research. Its academic output includes a quarterly open‑access Journal of North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, which publishes original research across health sciences and allied disciplines under a Creative Commons licence.
Internationally, NKUMS recently joined the COMSTECH-affiliated CINVU network.
It also contributes to major national research efforts such as the International Congress on Vector‑Borne Diseases in partnership with Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Our dynamic interdisciplinary team at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry offers a position for a PraeDoc in the areas of bioinorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment and a pleasant working atmosphere. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to target the role of transition metals in cancer growth. Your future tasks:

    • Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry mainly focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel ligands and/or metal complexes for applications in chemical biology and medicinal chemistry. 
    • Synthetic research work will take place in close coordination with experts in molecular biology and cell biology to enable the optimal design of the potential cancer therapeutics. 
    • You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. 
    • You will be actively involved in research, teaching and administration.
    • You will participate in publications, academic articles, presentations.
    • You will take part in teaching duties to the extent specified in the collective agreement.
    • You will supervise bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching or research.

This is part of your personality:

    • You have a diploma or master’s degree in chemistry, preferably with organic or inorganic chemistry qualification. 
    • Experience in the field of synthetic chemistry is required, especially in the multi-step synthesis of biologically active ligand systems and their corresponding metal complexes.
    • Experience in the purification and characterization of small molecules by advanced chromatography techniques (HPLC, LC-MS) and homo/heteronuclear 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy is required.
    • Experience with the coordination chemistry of first-row transition metals is desirable.
    • Experience with mammalian cell cultures and assays of cell viability and cell death is desirable.
    • Basic experience in research methods and academic writing.
    • Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable.
    • As an enthusiastic, hard-working, dedicated person who enjoys working independently as well as being a team player, you will blend into and be a valuable addition to our group.
    • Very good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. How can we perform table-top experiments to obtain new insights into the foundations of quantum physics? Can we measure gravitational effects on entangled photons for shining light onto the interface of quantum physics and gravity? Can we exploit quantum photonics technology for novel quantum machine learning, quantum computing and quantum cybersecurity applications? Can we scale-up multiphoton platforms by using integrated optics, quantum-dot single-photon sources and customized two-dimensional nonlinear materials? Such questions are the driving force behind our research. You will be part of our team and develop new ideas, technologies and experiments.

The research group “Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation”, led by Univ.- Prof. Dr. Philip Walther, is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics & Quantum Information at the Faculty of Physics, and member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ) – one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe – and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quanta. The group’s research combines the development of scalable photonic quantum technology for quantum computing and other quantum information applications with the investigation of fundamental quantum science questions. The main activities reach from quantum control of single photons using solid-state photon sources, integrated waveguide technology, tailored nonlinear media and detectors based on superconductor technology to interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces.
