North Island College (NIC) is a publicly funded college in British Columbia, Canada. It was first established in 1975. The university has four campuses and three centres. The largest campus is in the Comox Valley in Courtenay, and there are smaller campuses in Campbell River, Port Alberni and Port Hardy. A centre is also located in Ucluelet and there are two vocational centres: Tebo Vocational Centre in Port Alberni and Vigar Road Vocational Centre in Campbell River. The college runs over 1,000 courses and 80 programmes in healthcare, trades, business, fine arts and tourism among others. There are a range of qualifications available including degrees, diplomas and certificates. NIC also offers three bachelor of business administration degrees, with majors in marketing, accounting and general management, and a bachelor of science in nursing, in partnership with Vancouver Island University (VIU). NIC’s partnership agreements with universities around the world, give students access to the leading institutions in Canada and abroad through transfer agreements, exchanges, short and long-term study abroad opportunities and field schools.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Building Construction and Component-Oriented CAD. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Civil Engineering and Construction Management (BCE) and related fields. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules: Basics in Building Construction and Building Physics Building Construction Component-oriented CAD Computer-aided design Construction health and safety Project study 1 and Project Study 2 Technical drawing Engineering English Additional experiences in the fields of Building Physics are an asset. The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may requires conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring Ph.D. students. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of construction management policy, environment assessment, and risk management. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable. A collaboration in research/services between the successful candidate and other programs and industry is envisaged. This also includes the management of the state-of-the-art geotechnical engineering laboratory at VGU. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Civil Engineering and Construction Management Program (BCE) by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC). She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. Qualification Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Construction Planning and/or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include: An outstanding academic record with a focus on Building Construction or other areas closely related to it Proven expertise in Building Construction, Construction Component Design or Building Information Modelling Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation in the mentioned teaching subjects combined with a passion for teaching and research Practical experience in the industry is an advantage Maintain strong connections with the construction industry through professional networks, industry collaborations, and guest lectures is a must Guide students in developing construction software skills (auto-CAD: construction and technical drawings; Sap2000, Etabs: Structural Analysis; Revit: Building 3D model etc.,) Guide students in developing industry connections through internships, site visits, and professional networking events Contribute to the professional development of civil engineering graduates by providing career guidance and mentorship Proven excellent English proficiency: Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level C1 at the time of application submission. Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will teach courses offered in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to inclusive education, guidance and counselling, gifted education, well-being for diverse learners, enrichment strategies for learners in mixed-ability classrooms, AI in gifted education, and/or social-emotional learning of gifted and twice-exceptional learners. He/She will also supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research and knowledge exchange, and assume service/administrative responsibilities as appropriate. Those appointed at the senior level will also lead collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives in research and knowledge exchange, mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities. Essential Requirements Applicants should possess (i) a doctoral degree in Education, Inclusive Education, Guidance and Counselling, Gifted Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field; (ii) a professional teaching qualification; (iii) teaching and research experience in inclusive education, guidance and counselling, gifted education, or related areas; and (iv) a proven track record in, or strong potential for, research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term About the Project The opening is for a project funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF). The project supports Singapore’s commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction. As a country with limited natural resources, Singapore is investing in innovative carbon dioxide (CO2) utilization technologies to reduce emissions and enhance energy security. This research aims to develop an integrated process for converting CO2 into valuable chemicals using renewable energy. The approach combines biotechnological and electrocatalytic processes to efficiently transform CO2 into useful chemicals, providing a novel and sustainable pathway for chemical manufacturing. The project is led by Dr. Zhou Kang at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), with research strengths in metabolic engineering, microbial biomanufacturing, and sustainable process development. One Research Fellow will be hired to support the microbial engineering and bioprocess development aspects of the project: The Research Fellow will work under Dr. Zhou Kang at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). This role focuses on producing platform aromatics from C2 building blocks using engineered microbial strains, pathway engineering, and fermentation strategies. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the project towards a lab-scale demonstration of an integrated CO2-to-chemicals process. Key Responsibilities Conduct independent laboratory research related to microbial fermentation, strain engineering, and biotransformation. Develop and optimize microbial strains, biosynthetic pathways, and cultivation strategies to improve efficiency and product yield. Design and support the integration of biotechnological processes into a continuous lab-scale system. Characterize and analyze chemical and biological products using advanced analytical techniques. Collaborate closely with project team members and external collaborators across metabolic engineering, biocatalysis, and related disciplines. Document research findings, prepare technical reports, contribute to scientific publications, and help supervise junior researchers or students when needed. Qualifications & Experience PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology, or a related field. Demonstrated research experience in one or more of the following areas: microbial fermentation, metabolic engineering, biotransformations, or bioprocess development. Hands-on experience with genetic engineering, molecular biology techniques, and strain construction is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to collaborative projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment. A strong publication record or clear evidence of research productivity will be an advantage. Our lab uses Python, MATLAB and C++ to automate both data analysis and process control. Knowledge in these tools as well as emerging agentic AI will also be an advantage.  Professional Development The initial contract will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years based on performance and project needs. The Research Fellow will have opportunities to lead publications, present at conferences, and build an independent research profile within the project.
