About Newbury College

Basic information and contact details for Newbury College

institution

Newbury College is a private, independent institution which was established in 1962 as a business school. It was named for its original location on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay. It changed location several times over the year, eventually moving to its current location in Brookline in 1982.

The college delivers career-focused programmes of study through its four schools: the School of Arts & Design, the Roger A Saunders School of Business and Hospitality Management, the School of Social Sciences and Human Development, and the School of Culinary Science. Over 20 majors are on offer towards either bachelor’s or associate degrees.

Given the importance the college places on vocational learning, it follows that work experience is a major aspect of all programmes of study at Newbury. All students studying for a Bachelor’s degree are required to take part in a 150-hour internship, while Culinary Management and Hotel Administration students go through two internships.

Its location near to one of America’s most historic and cultural cities is one of Newbury’s biggest draws. The 10-acre college campus is a short walk from the Green Line to central Boston. Students can fulfil their internship requirements in the Massachusetts capital, or escape there on weekends to enjoy the many museums, parks, shops and bars.

Student organisations at Newbury include the college radio station, hockey club, yoga, fashion and over a dozen other groups. In addition, each year group has its own student council, which organises events for classmates and the whole campus. The class council provides students with experience in event management and teamwork.
