Newberry College is a private liberal arts college in South Carolina.
In 1829 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America established a seminary in South Carolina to train ministers. The seminary was open for several decades before moving to Newberry and becoming a college in 1855.
Newberry College offers courses in 10 academic areas: Arts and Communication, Business Administration, Humanities, Music, Nurses, Sciences and Mathematics, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Sports Professions, Teacher Education and Military.
The Military Science Leadership minor teaches the management skills needed to lead in the army, navy or air force. Contracted cadets who graduate from Newberry College receive a commission as a Second Lieutenant.
Newberry’s Department of Music is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Music. The college has a long history of vocal and instrumental performance, as well as a jazz band which has been in existence since 1956. The second oldest jazz festival in the United States is held on campus every year.
The college is located in Newberry, South Carolina, on a 90-acre campus boasting historic buildings and green spaces. The campus fitness centre is free for all students to use. Events such as sports matches and field days are organised regularly. For students wanting entertainment beyond the campus, Newberry city has parks, theatres, shopping centres and restaurants. The State Capital Columbia is less than an hour away.

Description The Life Molecules & Materials Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi pursuing cutting edge research in the areas of self-organization and function of proteins seeks to recruit a junior research scientist with expertise in quantitative confocal fluorescence microscopy and membrane biochemistry. The lab is currently focused on (1) developing bottom-up approaches to study the role of membrane shape in the function of intracellular organelles such as Golgi Apparatus and (2) understanding the determinants of protein solubility in the crowded intracellular mileu. Our research integrates biochemistry with physical chemistry and soft matter physics, and employs state-of-the-art tools including analytical ultracentrifugation, optical tweezers, confocal fluorescence microscopy, SAXS, NMR spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Group members receive training at the interface between physics, biology, and materials science, and will have access to generous travel allowances to attend international conferences and engage in scientific collaborations across the globe. Candidates must have a B.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field and should be proficient in basic quantitative microscopy and wet lab biochemistry techniques and have prior experience preparing and manipulating giant unilamellar vesicles. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate ability to independently perform quantitative data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or Mathematica etc. Good oral- and written communication skills in English are essential, along with great attention to detail and record-keeping in the lab. The successful applicant will also participate in guiding graduate- and undergraduate students in laboratory experiments and data analysis as well as assisting in drafting research papers and reports. The role A postdoctoral research fellow position in the cancer care group (School of Health Sciences) is available at the University of Surrey. The position will support a NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Programme funded study aimed at testing the acceptability and feasibility of delivering a breast cancer awareness intervention to women of Black African and Black Caribbean heritage in ante-natal settings. The University of Surrey is seeking an experienced research fellow to join the project team. The post-holder will be based at Surrey (under the supervision of Dr Afrodita Marcu) and will join a wider team of academics at the University of Surrey working on this project (Professor Emma Ream, Professor Jo Armes, Dr Pippa Lally, and Professor Heather Gage). To deliver the project, the post-holder will also work closely with PPI representatives and collaborators at King’s College London, Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Medway NHS Foundation Trust. They will undertake quantitative research exploring the feasibility of the intervention, and qualitative research exploring what makes the intervention acceptable to pregnant women and midwives. They will work with the broader team to assess the feasibility outcomes of the trial, and to determine the primary outcomes on which to power a future full-scale trial. The appointed research fellow will work closely with the PPI panel, and will travel to the two study sites (Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Medway NHS Foundation Trust) to set up the study and recruit participants. A DBS check will be required for the research element of the role. The expected start date is 1 November 2026. About you The successful candidate will be experienced in quantitative research, midwifery research or women’s health research, behaviour change interventions and/or feasibility trials, and be interested in research on cancer or health inequalities. They will be an integral member of the cancer care group and will be encouraged in the development of their own research plans.
