Description of ACER-CoE: The Centre was established to address enduring process challenges in Chemistry and Engineering disciplines and create an environment for interdisciplinary research. The research program of ACER CoE is multidisciplinary, with faculty members from backgrounds in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering focusing on different research fields such as catalysis, separation, energy generation, conversion and storage, and organic optoelectronics intelligent and advanced polymers and materials. Job description: The successful candidate will: Undertake original research of international excellence. Prepare papers for publication in leading journals and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, workshops and meetings. Communicate to the research projects team the development, progress and results of research activities. Develop collaborative links with the core scientific staff in related program areas to gain exposure and build knowledge on experimental/research activities and approaches, in order to improve conceptual development and implementation. Identify areas of improvement within the research structure using integrated management approaches in pursuit of capacity building/strengthening and the preservation of scientific rigor in research studies. Support if required, the development of proposals for research funding. Develop undergraduate courses, Master courses and modules. Support the appropriate equipment purchasing and ability to deal with international suppliers. Assist to the supervision of Ph.D. students and guide their research work. Candidate Profile: Due to the multidisciplinary character of ACER CoE, the ideal candidate must have as well a multidisciplinary scientific profile: PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical Processes or another suitable engineering discipline. Sound background in Catalysis Experience in process engineering including one of these areas: urea synthesis, water splitting, ammonia synthesis or carbon capture. Knowledge in advanced structural characterizations will be valued. Familiar with risk assessment and safe working procedures in a chemical laboratory. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English. Good publication track record in peer-reviewed journals. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. Excellent networking ability and organizational skills. About the project: This project aims to lower energy consumption and increase the water recovery of seawater desalination using the concept of desalination dilution by integrating a hybrid Forward Osmosis (FO) — Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. The work of this project includes lab work, computer modelling, life cycle assessment, and techno-economic study. The project will contribute to protecting water resources, promoting circular economic and zero liquid discharge concepts, and reducing the environmental impact of brine and unwanted water. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research team who are working on a project funded by OCP Group. The successful postdoctoral applicant will manage an exciting project on membrane processes technology and small-scale testing for seawater desalination. He/she should demonstrate experience in membrane processes, water quality analysis, and lab and pilot-scale testing of water treatment and desalination processes. Required qualifications: The successful postdoctoral applicant will manage an exciting project on hybrid FO-RO desalination system and small-scale testing for seawater desalination applications. The candidate should have a PhD in Engineering (including Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering), Material Science or any other relevant field. The candidate should have excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (assessment of membrane processes and water quality analysis) are required. Experience in computational fluid dynamics modelling of water treatment and desalination processes is an advantage. Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary group. Demonstrated skills in scientific writing in the form of research journal articles, conference papers, or high-quality scientific reporting. The successful candidate will develop and conduct applied research programs in chemistry and chemical engineering focusing on designing and development of materials for gas storage applications, gas/vapor/liquid separation purification, sensing and/or waste transformation/energy efficiency. Other duties include advising graduate students and contribution to build up a first-class research-oriented research program at UM6P. The incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with other researchers in related fields within the centre and within UM6P. The position is open to individuals who hold a Doctoral degree in the subject discipline from a recognized university. The candidate should demonstrate that their PhD work and past experience allow them to have a connection to one or several aspects of the areas of research mentioned above. Very good English communication, both verbal and written, is required. Key duties: Successful candidates are expected to: Conducting scientific research in a team composed of multidisciplinary researchers; Supervise graduate student within ACER CoE; Participate to develop funded research projects and programs in the area in collaboration with multidisciplinary groups in the field; Presenting research results and scientific outcomes to stakeholders and at scientific meetings and conferences; Publish research results in peer-reviewed and high impact international academic journals of the field.
