Our faculty collaborates closely with industry on translational research and innovation with focus on addressing pertinent industry challenges to impact businesses.  The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme is co-funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SIT to encourage and support outstanding young Singaporeans interested in pursuing an academic career at SIT. The Applied Research Fellowship aims to provide doctoral candidates who are about to complete or have recently completed their studies an opportunity to engage in advanced training and/or research at an overseas university for one year.  Besides financial support, awardees will also receive academic mentorship.  Upon completion of the Fellowship, awardees will be considered for Assistant Professorship. Eligibility and Selection Criteria Singapore citizen  Doctoral candidates who have recently completed or are about to complete their studies in a discipline under the supported areas for START below  Excellent academic record plus a high degree of proficiency and motivation for selected research area  Have been accepted or have applied for a postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university in a research area that is aligned with SIT’s supported areas  A keen interest in an academic career Value of Fellowship The Fellowship provides  Monthly stipend  Overseas maintenance allowance  Return economy airfare  Conference and fieldwork grants  Overseas medical insurance  Fellows will also each be assigned a SIT faculty mentor throughout their post-doctoral training and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes. The fellowship is tenable for one year. On an exception basis, a two-year programme may be supported. Service Commitment One year for every year of sponsorship. Applications received before 15 January 2026 will be considered for the 2026 intake.   Interview by the respective clusters for shortlisted applicants will be conducted throughout the year.   Final Interview by the Panel for shortlisted applicants for the 2026 intake will commence in Mid-March to End April 2026.   Awards will be finalised by July 2026. Supported Areas for START - Engineering   Energy Resilience: Power electronic converters for distributed energy resources and microgrids; High voltage DC transmission and distribution components and systems; Electric propulsions systems for land, sea and air; Wide bandgap solid-state protective devices.  Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering and Maintenance: Construction technology, Tunnel engineering, Integrated BIM for Civil and MEP design optimisation; Non-destructive testing and prognostic maintenance for infrastructure rejuvenation and life extension.  Sustainable Maritime Engineering: Ship design and optimisation towards maritime decarbonisation; maritime battery room design for safety; intelligent ship and operations; autonomous vessels and systems.

We are launching the LU Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme (PPRF) and invite applications from early career researchers from all over the world. Eligibility Applicants should have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification, and the PhD degree should have been received no more than three years prior to the start of the Fellowship. They are expected to have a good research track record and demonstrate good potential in publishing high quality papers. Duration and Requirements of the Fellowship The duration of the Fellowship will normally be three years. The appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of 1 year, and further appointment for a period of 2 years is subject to the appointee’s satisfactory performance. The appointees are required to submit applications for the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (JRFS) or the JC STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application (JC STEM ECRF), and are encouraged to apply for other local / overseas grants or fellowship schemes. Terms and Benefits The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointees. The appointees will also be provided with research funding of HK$10,000 per year to support their research activities. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Automation, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, or related areas in development would be preferred. Experience in following areas is highly desirable: Hands-on experience in electronics/electrical. Programming of Microcontrollers and embedded systems. Working knowledge of programming languages such ROS/ROS2, Python, C/C++ Programming, Knowledge of subjects such as computer vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Kinematics and dynamics. Autonomous systems, Robotics and Automation. Industry 4.0 and Internet-of-Things. Advantageous to have prior knowledge in: Hands-on experience implementation of industrial robotics systems and performing offline simulation of robotic work cells. Digitalisation skills – IoT, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mixed reality, etc would be advantageous. Programming and simulation software such as MATLAB, Gazebo and Tensor flow. Knowledge of Linux OS. Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.
