Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized university. Experience: A seasoned technical specialist with 10+ years of industry experience in software development lifecycles, with strong technical expertise and hands-on development experience. Programming Languages: C#, C/C++, Python, Java. Software Engineering Principles: Expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Microservices, and API Development. Cloud & DevOps Technologies: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD Pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. Passion for supporting research and academic projects, with a track record of developing software solutions to address technical challenges. Extensive industry experience and knowledge to provide valuable industry perspectives in an academic setting. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a keen interest in working closely with students in a learning environment. Committed to continuous learning and staying updated on industry advancements. Professional certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage. Candidates with exposure to Big Data and AI technologies will have an added advantage in supporting advanced research and applied projects.

Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments About the role The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer is the operational and partnership lead for the Inkfish EMBRACE (Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment) programme, setting up and managing the operations across the multi-partner, multiple country consortium. The post holder is required to be a highly experienced, strategic leader with expertise in artificial intelligence in the context of personalised health. EMBRACE is a visionary, multicomponent international research programme, the first of its kind in the world, supported by Inkfish with £35M core funds over six years, starting in April 2025. It is a global study of 60,000 participants, including 20,000 mothers, 20,000 infants and up to 20,000 partners. It brings together world-leading clinician scientists across six distinguished Healthcare organisations, world-leading AI & technology companies, together with premier biotech companies, with the overarching aim to fast-track major scientific breakthroughs, revolutionise maternal and early childhood health through precision-personalised interventions, powered by a groundbreaking symbiosis of cutting-edge AI combined with human support. The post holder is responsible for establishing and managing the EMBRACE programme working closely with the study Director and lead PI, Professor Josip Car (King’s College London), Senior Advisors, other members of the research leadership team and Industry partner organisations. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will manage all parties within the global consortium and key stakeholders to set up and maintain an operational framework that meets the regulatory requirements of each partner country and organisation to meet EMBRACE’s ambitious goals. They will oversee day-to-day execution of decisions and contracts, including the oversight of the research teams and business operations. This includes the consortium’s financial management, project management – meeting key milestones, writing and presenting reports, establishing and overseeing the programme’s governance, ethical and regulatory compliance, and maintaining internal and external relationships including with industry partners, funders and collaborators. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high-impact research outcomes. This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 01/10/2030. Please note that you will be expected to come into the office a minimum of 4 days a week. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD in a STEM discipline Advanced financial management and analytical skills to underpin strategic decisions and procedures Significant experience of managing a multi-site international scientific programme including governance, regulatory and clinical operations Extensive experience working in a leadership role in either a higher education or research institution, a large research funder or a biomedical or other active research company in the private sector, with responsibility for delivering operational partnership between commercial, clinical and university organisations using negotiation and influencing skills Detailed understanding and experience of setting up and project managing/ leading a complex multi-partner programme similar to the EMBRACE programme Proven excellent written and spoken communication skills, translating scientific concepts and findings into understandable presentations and written reports High level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude to deliver agreed outputs on time and within budget Significant experience in managing clinical research and clinical trials in partnership with commercial organisations Desirable criteria Proven experience in managing complex teams both with line management responsibilities and in a matrix environment Advanced relevant professional qualification in project management, accountancy, MBA, or equivalent Formal clinical research or clinical trial qualification Downloading a copy of our Job Description Full details of the role and the skills, knowledge and experience required can be found in the Job Description document, provided at the bottom of the page. About EPrints Services As a result of our continued success, we are hiring into a Software Engineering / Customer Support role. We primarily develop and maintain Web-based repository services for a wide variety of both education and commercial organisations all over the World. At our core is an open source repository platform, EPrints, which provides a flexible way to configure operations concerning data capture, structure and presentation, and a range of services that allow content to be accessed in a variety of ways. We support our many customers by maintaining our own Linux based virtual hosting infrastructure. We are a well established small Enterprise team based in the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. About You As part of the team, you will take responsibility for the development and support of customer focused projects, for both EPrints systems and more varied engineering activities. These typically relate to open access, open data, digital education, content management and systems integrations. All projects require some level of design, programming, testing, project management, and customer support. It is essential you have: Proven industrial experience and / or  PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Computer Science or related discipline. In addition, some knowledge of Linux as well as Web relevant technologies, for example XML, SQL, JavaScript and CSS is required. Experience in high level programming languages such as Python, PHP or Perl will be highly desirable.
