National Taichung University of Science and Technology began as two separate universities: the National Taichung Institute of Technology and the National Taichung Nursing College. They merged in 2011 to form the National Taichung University of Science and Technology.

The university is located in Taichung, central Taiwan.

There are six colleges within the university: college of commerce, college of design, college of information and distribution service, college of language, college of health, and the college of intelligence. Each college is divided into different departments, which offer courses at both undergraduate and graduate degree level.

The university organises its teaching into five school systems: day school, night division, continuing education, long distance learning, and senior commercial school of continuing education.

The Office of Student Affairs organises a variety of events and workshops throughout the year that contribute to the personal development of every student. The office also oversees the numerous extracurricular clubs that are offered by the university.

The university has established partnerships with several higher education institutions across the globe such as the University of Victoria in Canada, De Montfort University in the UK, and Hebei University in China.

Your personal sphere of play: The Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna, a vital unit within the Faculty of Social Sciences, welcomes applications for a Post Doctoral position in an ERC Advanced Grant project centred on the role of emotion in public debate on loneliness, privacy, radicalisation and social isolation under the guidance of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Anna Durnova, Ph.D. This position is offered in the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant project LONERS "Loneliness, Emotions, and Regulation: Understanding Institutions through Privacy". As a Post Doctoral researcher, you will become a member of the Research Team of Anna Durnova, situated at the Department of Sociology.  The team's primary mission is to develop theoretical concepts and analytical tools to understand better current societal polarization, among which loneliness is seen as a crucial area. A special focus of the international team is given to interpretive social research and social research on emotions.  Additional methodological focus is welcome. The project: “Loneliness, Emotions, and Regulation: Understanding Institutions through Privacy” (LONERS) is funded by the European Research Council as an Advanced Grant. Within the LONERS project we aim to explore the relationship between loneliness, privacy, and emotions to help institutions better respond to citizens’ emotional needs. Going beyond conventional views of privacy, it will identify key moments of intervention that respect citizens’ privacy. By examining how loneliness interacts with societal values and norms, the project seeks to outline a framework for balancing privacy concerns with citizens well-being. Your future tasks: Active participation in research and project coordination assistance which means: You build up an independent research profile in the field of political sociology and emotion research. You will independently plan and execute empirical research within the scope of the ERC project outlined earlier. You are involved in  related research project and scientific studies in the area of radicalisation, social isolation and loneliness. You publish internationally and give lectures. You apply for theme-related projects and raise further third-party funds. You mentor students and junior members of the  LONERS project. You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance. You participate in a research project and in scientific studies in the field of political sociology developing your own research interests. You participate in national and international conferences and project meetings. You will write scientific publications. Your tasks will involve literature review, finetuning of analytical schemes to address the political force of emotions and supporting the coordinator in the elaboration of reports, as well as social impact activities. You will be part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, benefiting from an extensive network of excellent researchers. Active involvement in ongoing research conducted by the research team of Anna Durnova is encouraged. This is part of your personality: Strong interest in exploring sociology of emotions and political sociology  research topics theoretically and empirically. Strong interest in research on loneliness, politics of emotions in the context of radicalisation, social isolation and polarisation. PhD in sociology or related disciplines. Outstanding dissertation. Proficiency in social science qualitative research methods. A keen interest in acquiring advanced skills in discourse analysis and social network analysis. Experience with scientific writing and presenting. Further project-relevant writing skills are an asset. Excellent command of written and spoken English. While not mandatory, proficiency in an additional foreign language (notably Italian, Dutch) is a definite asset, due to the international character of the project. Job Description Postdoctoral Researcher in Mineral Processing, Battery Materials, and Sustainable Process Engineering.  The researcher will join a multidisciplinary research program aimed at optimizing natural graphite for Li-ion battery applications, developing sustainable purification technologies, and advancing circular water management in mineral processing. The work spans mineral processing, electrochemistry, hydrometallurgy, and environmental engineering. The successful candidate will carry out duties to the highest standard and will: Help at designing and setting up experimental work at lab and pilot scale. Perform materials characterization (XRD, Raman, SEM-EDS, TGA, PSD, BET, ICP). Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical optimization tools to improve processes within the main project and across other ongoing research lines. Fabricate and test graphite anodes via electrochemical techniques (CV, EIS, galvanostatic cycling). Establish correlations between purification conditions, structural properties, and electrochemical performance. Contribute to side research activities involving biomass-derived biochar production, its application in water purification, and the evaluation of adsorption or catalytic performance. Analyze wastewater streams for organic and inorganic contaminants. Evaluate recovery or reuse pathways for reagents and valuable by-products. Assess environmental, economic, and regulatory implications of proposed solutions. Propose scalable solutions for industrial implementation and Water-Energy-Materials nexus. Collaborate with suppliers, support staff, and other engineers, PhD students to plan and implement experiments related to the project. Set up testing methods, instruments and perform data acquisition related to the project. Write proposals, reports, scientific articles and Patent proposals related to the project. Candidate Profile Strong proficiency in software tools related to materials/process modeling, thermochemical systems, statistical design (DoE), and data analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Solid understanding of the physics, chemistry, and structure–property relationships of carbon materials and inorganic solids. Strong skills in materials characterization techniques, including SEM, XRD, Raman, BET, TGA, ICP, and electrochemical testing. Experience with hydrometallurgical and thermochemical processes, carbon purification, or mineral processing is required; familiarity with pyrolysis or other high-temperature treatments is considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to perform experimental work at lab scale, with experience in pilot-scale setups considered a plus. Proven track record in designing, conducting, and optimizing experiments, ideally supported by DoE/statistical methods. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural research team. Prior experience in industrial research and development , battery materials, mineral processing, or related sectors is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work with industry partners and deliver results within defined deadlines. Education Successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical or Process Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a closely related discipline. A strong background in carbon materials, battery materials, sustainable purification processes, or thermochemical treatment of solids is highly desirable.
