The National Taichung University of Education was founded in 1899. It was originally located in the Confucian Temple and moved to its current site in 1923. 

The university is now spread over two major campuses. 

It was given its current name in 2005. 

The university has one college of education, faculties in humanities and science and a school of management. 

The university offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. 

There are also 11 research centres at the university including the foreign language research centre, the social enterprise centre and the environmental education and management academic research centre. 

There are more than 60 student societies and clubs including music club, writing club, drama club and photography club among others. 

Sports teams at the university include basketball, tennis, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics and volleyball.
