The National Polytechnic University of Armenia was originally established in 1933 as the Karl Marx Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. When it was first established the institute had just two departments and 107 students. Its aim was to train skilled professionals for the construction and chemical industry. In 1991 the polytechnic was renamed the State Engineering University of Armenia and in 2014 it became the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. The university is located in Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia. There are four institutes and one faculty at the university: institute of information and telecommunication technologies and electronics, institute of energy electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, transportation systems and design institute, institute of mining, metallurgy and chemical technologies, and the faculty of applied mathematics and physics. Each institute and faculty offer a wide range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. The university has developed partnerships with 175 other higher education institutions around the world. It has also established agreements with more than 22 international scientific research and grant programmes to facilitate exchanges for both students and staff.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual- either a Grade 7 PhD holder, or a Grade 6 graduate - to join the EYESAVE project, funded by the Vivensa Foundation Trust, as a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Lead. The project addresses the growing demands on glaucoma care by developing an AI-enabled triage platform that integrates retinal imaging, clinical data, and machine learning to support early detection and prioritisation of patients at risk of vision loss. The role involves leading PPIE activities to ensure that patient perspectives and lived experiences shape the design, development, and evaluation of the technology throughout the project. Working in collaboration with clinicians, AI researchers, and vision scientists at Newcastle University, Sunderland Eye Hospital and Newcastle RVI, this position offers the opportunity to deliver meaningful impact by embedding co-production and patient voice into cutting-edge research. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in public engagement, health research involvement, or community partnership working to contribute to a high-impact project with strong potential for clinical adoption and real-world benefit. This post is fixed term for 12 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time) as the project is time and funding-limited. The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols. Research Context & Project Background The Department of Orthopaedics of Traumatology, School of Clinical of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and talented Post-doctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary research team focusing on the molecular mechanisms of musculoskeletal diseases, including intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) and rare bone diseases like Pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH). Given that skeletal disorders often involve complex "ER storage" pathologies and genetic mutations, our research aims to bridge the gap between clinical observation and molecular therapy. The successful candidate will leverage the unique clinical resources of the Greater Bay Area and the advanced research facilities at the University to develop innovative treatments. Duties and Responsibilities Design and conduct experiments involving molecular biology, genetics, and gene editing (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) to model orthopedic pathologies. Manage and perform functional studies using animal models (e.g., transgenic mice) to evaluate disease progression and therapeutic efficacy. Utilize induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to create disease-in-a-dish models for high-throughput screening. Perform sophisticated transcriptomic data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq) to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals. Assist in the supervision of postgraduate students and junior research staff. Requirements A Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field. Strong hands-on experience in gene editing and animal model handling. Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for transcriptomic data analysis is highly preferred. A solid publication record in reputable international journals. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Experience in musculoskeletal research or bone biology will be considered an advantage.
