The Masters in Translation and Interpretation (MTI) programme within the School of Humanities at NTU Singapore invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Translation, beginning on August 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The postholder will help particularly help growth of research and teaching in AI translation within the Translation and Interpretation programme, and participate in NTU Singapore’s Digital Humanities, Arts and Social Science initiatives. Key Responsibilities Conduct high-quality research, with the goal of creating new knowledge with a clear academic and social impact, in fields such as AI-enhanced translation workflows, Neural machine translation, large language models, or multilingual NLP, Multimodal and multilingual AI, Translation quality evaluation using AI Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computational Thinking, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) for translators, LLM and Translation Memory Actively seek to collaborate with colleagues in related fields, in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and elsewhere at NTU Singapore, particular in NTU Singapore’s emerging Digital Humanities, Arts and Social Science initiatives. Supervise Undergraduate and postgraduate students theses in AI-related areas of translation. Apply for external and internal research funding. Contribute to curriculum development in translation and AI. Participate in departmental, college, and university service and outreach activities Minimum Qualifications PhD holder in Computer Science / Computational Linguistics / Natural Language Processing with a strong focus on translation or multilingual language technologies. Evidence of research potential or established research record (peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, etc.). Demonstrated ability or strong potential to teach relevant courses at university level. Excellent command of English with any Asian languages; additional working languages are an asset. Able to work independently and to collaborate with cross-disciplinary research clusters Relevant publication track record Desirable Qualifications Experience integrating AI tools in translator training (e.g. MT post-editing, terminology extraction, quality assurance). Experience with industry-standard translation technology (e.g. CAT tools, TMS platforms). Evidence of successful grant applications or participation in funded projects. Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and with industry partners. The Position The Department of English invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (Tenure-track or Tenured) in Literary Studies and Computational Methods. We seek an intellectually ambitious scholar whose research combines computational, quantitative, or data-driven approaches with sustained engagement in literary interpretation, theory, and history. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of computational literary studies at NTU, working collaboratively within English, across the School of Humanities, and through active participation in the Asian Centre for Digital Cultures, which provides a platform for interdisciplinary research, collaborative projects, and international engagement in digital humanities. Research Profile Applicants should demonstrate a strong and original research agenda that advances literary scholarship through computational methods. Areas of interest may include (but are not limited to): Computational or quantitative approaches to literary form, genre, narrative, or style Large-scale textual or corpus-based literary analysis Digital, comparative, or transnational literary history Theoretical and methodological work on scale, abstraction, modelling, or interpretation Intersections between literary theory, data science, machine learning, or network analysis The department welcomes research across historical periods and literary traditions; with a focus on texts in English, but potentially including work that engages Asian, global, and/or multilingual textual corpora, and research that resonates with the intellectual priorities of the Asian Centre for Digital Cultures. Teaching and Supervision The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English and literary studies, including courses that introduce students to computational and digital approaches to the study of texts. The candidate will supervise postgraduate research and contribute actively to mentoring students working across literary studies, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary research contexts. They may also contribute to CoHASS’s new Digital Humanities MA degree Requirements Requirements at all levels include: A PhD in English, Comparative Literature, Digital Humanities or a related field. Evidence of strong scholarly promise and a developing publication profile Demonstrated capacity to integrate computational or quantitative methods into literary research Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student mentorship An interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and internationally engaged research Good communication and interpersonal skills.  In addition, requirements at the Associate Professor and Full Professor level include: Recognition in the research community, such as invited talks, awards, or memberships in professional societies. Proven ability to secure research funding. Demonstrated capacity to contribute to curriculum development. A strong track record of supervising students, research staff, and/or postdocs, as well as mentoring junior faculty.
