Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre was established in 2020 by The University of Hong Kong in collaboration with Harvard University John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The mission of the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre is to accelerate progress in translating advanced biomedical instrumentation from research and development into real-world healthcare solutions that benefit people in Hong Kong and around the world. The Centre aims to foster collaboration among top-notch engineers, scientists and clinicians in the US and Hong Kong to develop next-generation microfluidics and low-cost instrumentation technologies. It also takes advantage of Hong Kong’s vibrant start-up community to commercialise the research work tailored for Asian patients. The Centre's R&D activities focus on three research programmes: Product Innovation with Engineering Excellence: develop innovative materials, therapeutic agents, devices and tools that require exceptionally precise manufacturing and highly sophisticated engineering know-how, and AI-enabled software products; Clinical Services Transformed with Novel Technologies: develop novel technologies that will transform clinical labs, and detect and analyse diseases with higher accuracy, lower cost, faster results, more convenient use, and other clinically impactful improvements; Technologies for Next Generation CRO: develop innovative research tools, such as organoids and animal neuro-testing systems, for safer, faster, more accurate, lower-cost, and more scalable implementation of pre-clinical research and drug development. Job Description Carrying out research works under supervision for projects ranging from fundamental fluid dynamics and interfacial phenomena to biomedical and other applications Driving research activities towards defined goals in specified timeline Translating research to users through commercialization activities Processing in data analysis and management Drafting reports and presentations relevant to the projects Liaising with project collaborators and partners Performing various laboratory administrative duties Handling other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s) Requirements Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering / Biomedical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Chemistry or related engineering fields Relevant hands-on experience in microfluidics and diagnostic tool design is highly preferred Fresh graduates with outstanding academic achievement and strong passion in applied research of biomedical instrumentation will also be considered as Research Assistant or Research Student Fluent in English in both writing and verbal communications; clear and concise writing skills Good time management with a strong sense of responsibility and research ethics Self-motivated team player who can be assertive to achieve results, and able to work under pressure A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The aim of the study is to estimate the effect of a pain education module plus (for those reporting significant musculoskeletal pain) or individualised support to students attending secondary schools. This is a study led by a team from the University of Sydney and is a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) supported by the Australian Government. Prof. Kamper and team have developed a pain education module and tailored biopsychosocial care for those who experience significant musculoskeletal pain.
