Namangan State University

Namangan State University is located on the Silk Road, 20 miles from the border with Kyrgyzstan.
Founded in 1941 as a teachers college, the university attained university status in 1992, shortly after Uzbekistan declared independence. 
It began with the faculties of economics, agriculture, humanities and natural science and has since has expanded to include social sciences, political sciences, history, psychology, education and many others. 
Courses are offered part and full-time, in evenings and at distance to give students maximum flexibility. 
It holds regular Maths and Physics Olympiads for schools.
Courses are offered in English, Russian and German as well as Uzbek. 
It has agreements with more than 40 international universities. Five joint degrees in education are run with the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia iand dual medical degrees with Ural State Medical University.

Job Description:

The University seeks to appoint an exceptionally motivated and energetic leader of high professional and academic standing as Senior Director: Global Engagement, reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation. The Senior Director will provide strategic, operational, and administrative oversight of the Global Engagement Division (Division). The Senior Director must effectively and collegially steward the Division to excel in all aspects related to global engagement while overseeing the following sub-divisions: International student recruitment, admissions and marketing, study abroad, academic services, international fundraising and administration, international public relations and communications.

The Senior Director: Global Engagement plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's global engagements, international branding and marketing, fostering a diverse and inclusive international community, and promoting cross-cultural understanding. This portfolio contributes to the university's international reputation and its ability to prepare students for a globally interconnected world. The primary purpose of the Senior Director: Global Engagement role is to provide leadership and drive global excellence and stature, as well as deliver high-level strategic and operational leadership to the Global Engagement portfolio and all relevant stakeholders within the university, including Vice Deans for Global Engagement. Further, to determine, articulate, implement, and lead high-level strategic and operational initiatives in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan 2035.

The Senior Director will be expected to:


	Provide visionary leadership to advance the university’s global engagement initiatives
	Develop and implement a strategy for academic and diplomatic protocol to enhance external stakeholder relations.
	Develop and implement a strategy for the targeted recruitment of talented international students with a focus on Africa but not excluding the Globe.
	Manage and lead the administrative aspects of global engagement including budgets, grants management, and compliance with international laws.
	Target recruitment and nurture talented scholars and students with a focus on Africa as well as the Globe.
	Identify and pursue external funding opportunities from international funding sources, collaborators, partners, government funders and philanthropic support.
	Comprehensively respond to internationalisation-related policy documents, draft proposals and reports.
	 Assist the Registrar and Executive Deans in the provision of the relevant academic administrative support for international students.
	 In partnership with the faculties, institutes and research centres, drive and/or support initiatives to realise the University’s Strategic Plans.
	Oversee services and support for international students, including admissions, visa assistance, orientation, and cultural integration.
	Strengthen the University’s partnership with internationally recognized ranking agencies, such as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE), and others.
	Ensure compliance with international regulations, immigration policies, and legal requirements related to international students and activities.
	Ensure the effective, responsible, and efficient management and utilisation of the division’s finances and resources.
	Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with international universities, institutions, and organizations.
	Oversee and implement innovative staff development and management initiatives including retention and recruitment.


Minimum requirements


	 PhD qualification (NQF level 10) or equivalent.
	Substantive and acknowledged academic stature.
	Senior executive management experience (at least 10 years) at an academic institution and/or within a division of a significant size and complexity.
	Sound knowledge of, insight into, and vision of the Higher Education sector – nationally, regionally and internationally.
	Knowledge of international regulations, immigration policies, and best practices in higher education internationalization.
	Established and valuable international networks paired with outstanding stewardship, diplomatic, effective, and efficient communication skills to leverage local,
	Pan-African, and global networks.
	Ability to maintain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners, nationally and internationally.
	Demonstrated experience in fundraising external to the University environment.
	Ability to manage the portfolio’s finances and resources effectively and efficiently.
	Demonstrated leadership at all academic levels and in staff recruitment mentorship and development.
	The capacity for strategic leadership and operational excellence within the portfolio.
	Proven resource, strategic and people management skills, with exceptional ability and resilience to function under pressure.

Terms of appointment:

The position of Senior Director is a permanent appointment, with an Executive-level remuneration and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Retirement Age:

The normal retirement age for members of the Senior Leadership Group is 65. Consideration will be given to candidates who would be able to serve for a 5-year term.

Its portfolio includes flagship Undergraduate and Pre-university Summer Schools, customised undergraduate and postgraduate student programming for international partners, short courses and overseas programmes offered in face-to-face, blended and online modalities.

About King’s Centre for International Education and Languages

King’s Centre for International Education and Languages is a new, cross-cutting Centre designed to widen the educational reach of King’s. It brings together three existing areas: King’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, and King’s Language Centre. This brings together international pathway provision, pre sessional programmes, pre-university summer courses, UG summer modules, UG language modules, bespoke language programmes for the community and our partners, and academic skills provision for all King’s students. Each of these areas are well established, respected and recognised within and beyond the King’s community. 

The Centre is focused on enabling collaboration between the three departments to further advance our work in promoting educational excellence and supporting and enhancing the student experience. The Centre has significant expertise in International Education and makes a significant contribution to the rich and diverse make-up of the King’s student body.

About the role 

The Senior Pre-University Summer School Manager will oversee and manage pastoral care16 and 17 years old Pre-University Summer School students in residences as well as the smooth running of the extracurricular summer school programme and overall student experience. Leading a team of Summer School assistants, the postholder will both - support and proactive care to all students during their time on the programme as well as support to students in crisis.

The postholder will be required to live in Stamford Street Apartments (SSA) residence alongside their team of Summer Assistants between 5 July-1 August 2026. Accommodation provision in SSA is free of charge and includes 2 meals per day (breakfast and dinner) served in the onsite restaurant.

As one of the senior managers on the programme, the postholder will work closely with the Summer Programmes Deputy Head of Ops and the Head of Education to ensure the smooth day to day running of the summer school. The postholder will also line manage the Pre-University Summer School Manager and an extended team of Summer School Assistants.

The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS certificate.

Period of appointment: Fixed term for 3 months, 6 May- 7 August 2026

Working Hours: Wed 6th May – June, Mon-Fri, flexible between 17.5 - 35 hours per week depending on workload and start date. During programme delivery (July) - full time, 5 days out of 7, Mon - Sun; postholder may be required to work additional hours during this period; this will be paid at the normal hourly rate

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

	Demonstrable experience of working with young adults, including safeguarding experience ideally gained within a high-volume summer school or similar residential environment.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:


	Conduct original research of international excellence.
	Design experiments (DoE) for the synthesis of nanoarchitectured materials and nanocomposites for supercapacitor applications.
	Support equipment procurement and effectively coordinate with international suppliers.
	Assemble and test supercapacitor devices.
	Prepare publications for leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings.
	Communicate research developments, progress, and results to the research team.

	A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Processes, or a related engineering discipline.
	A strong background in electrochemical surface science.

General Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in History or a closely related field. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and teaching excellence, with an outstanding track record of scholarly publications in internationally leading peer-reviewed journals and major scholarly presses, as well as extensive experience in teaching and course development. The ability to contribute to the Department’s strategic areas—global Asia, public history, or/and digital history—is essential. Experience in digital humanities will be considered an advantage.
