Applicants should possess a medical degree registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, a relevant higher academic qualification (e.g. M.D., Ph.D.), a higher qualification in internal medicine, and a specialist qualification in gastroenterology recognized by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine or its equivalent. They should have proven capacity and potential, and an outstanding track record of active research, including high-impact research output, external competitive grants and research awards; demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in clinical services and training; and have engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. They should also be fluent in Cantonese, Putonghua and English, although teaching, research and professional activities are conducted in English. Preference will be given to those with a track record in research governance, university and hospital administration, and experience in both early- and late-phase clinical trials.  The appointee is expected to participate in the planning and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; conduct research in gastroenterology; develop and provide regular clinical services and patient care at the University’s affiliate teaching hospitals; and contribute to administrative duties in the Department, Hospitals and Faculty. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35%)  ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR  The field of the position is medical genetics and the language of instruction is Swedish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage. The professorship in medical genetics is associated with a research director’s position at Folkhälsan Research Centre. Applicants must submit separate applications for the professorship and the research director’s position. An appointee to the position of assistant professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience. An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide toplevel research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application deadline. The person performing the university's teaching and research position is required to master the language in which he or she must provide teaching. Successful completion of the task also requires good English language skills. When the language of instruction is Swedish, the language proficiency recommended for successfully attending to the duties of the position corresponds with level C2of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At the faculty’s discretion, level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages may be accepted as a minimum Swedish language proficiency requirement. Co-designed and co-supported by the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and the Daffodil Centre, this joint Postdoctoral Research Fellowship aims to synergise the strengths of both Flagship Centres to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer research that seeks to improve health outcomes. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Daffodil and Poche Centres, on a 2-year Fellowship with the possibility of a 1-year extension, subject to performance and available funding. This career-launching role will support the Fellow to develop momentum towards becoming an independent researcher. We would like to hear from early career researchers who have recently completed a PhD related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, public health, epidemiology or health services research, with a strong research track record relative to opportunity. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in cancer research and a plan to have their postdoctoral research focused on improving equity and reducing disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We are looking for applicants with experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.The successful applicant can either develop their own cancer research project with the support of their supervisors, if they have a particular cancer research interest, or they can choose to work on research projects from existing areas of expertise within the Daffodil and Poche Centres. The Centres have substantial methodological expertise, including in epidemiology, biostatistics, Yarning, consumer engagement research, health economics, health services research, implementation science, behavioural science, qualitative research and health policy. In this role, the scope of the cancer research at the Daffodil Centre would be from a perspective of prevention, screening, and early diagnosis, up to the treatment and survivorship rates.Examples of potential projects include:using datasets to understand risk factors for gynaecological cancer and conduct studies on how factors like menopausal age, oral contraceptive use and other reproductive factors influence health outcomes.leading a program of collaborative research examining skin cancer prevention and early detection in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. One position as a research technician (level 3) or senior research technician (level 4) is available in Dr Hans Michael Haitchi’s group in Respiratory Research, Clinical & Experimental Sciences (CES), Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton (UoS). The group is studying the Preclinical efficacy and safety of ADAM33 oligonucleotides as new disease-modifying asthma therapy in pre-clinical murine and human models as part of a Medical Research Council – Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme (MRC-DPFS) grant in 2023 in collaboration with Professor Jonathan K Watts from the RNA Therapeutics Institute at the University of Massachusetts, USA. We hope to move a compound forward toward Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling studies and clinical development for severe asthma. Dr Haitchi’s group studies asthma and in particular the role of the asthma gene ADAM33 in development of asthma using in vivo and in vitro asthma research models. The posts will be full-time for up to 10 months, funded by a MRC-DPFS grant. Candidates must hold or nearing completion of a relevant MSc or PhD qualification (or equivalent). A background in respiratory research with experience in, molecular biology techniques is essential, microscopy and image analysis and animal models is desirable. We especially welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates with prior knowledge of a broad variety of laboratory research methods and human and/or mouse in vivo and ex vivo respiratory disease research models with a keen interest and willingness to learn new research methods as part of a research team in the UK and USA.
