El-Houssaine ABLOUH : elhoussaine.ablouh@um6p.ma DESRCIPTION DU POSTE The successful candidate will carry out duties to the highest standard and will: Conduct experimental research to develop new customized fertilizers through green technologies Carry out independent and/or directed advanced research to achieve the project objectives Prepare research reports as required by the funding body and produce scientific publications in leading journals Supervision of master and PhD students and trainees providing guidance on experimental processes and techniques, data analysis, and research methodologies. Collaborate with research colleagues and actively develop internal and external networks relevant to the research project Keep the project team apprised about relevant information, progress and results of research activities, and clarify any issues in the implementation of projects/experiments in a timely manner as possible To help in building integrated management approaches to identify areas of improvement within the research structure Support if required, the development of proposals for research funding. PROFIL : PhD in polymer science, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, fertilizer science, or a closely related field. Strong expertise in the design, functionalization, and processing of organic materials for fertilizer customization. Solid knowledge of fertilizer science, particularly phosphate-based fertilizers, multinutrient fertilizers, slow/controlled-release fertilizers and coating technologies. Proven experience in developing functional coatings, additives, or advanced materials to improve fertilizer performance, stability, compatibility, and agronomic efficiency. Strong understanding of recent R&D trends in innovative fertilizers, including fertilizer customization, enhanced-efficiency fertilizers and nutrient delivery systems. Experience with materials and fertilizer characterization techniques such as XPS, AFM, TEM, NMR, XRD, SEM/EDX, DVS, ICP, and nutrients release kinetics, and nutrient analysis. Ability to design and conduct multidisciplinary research combining materials science, chemistry, fertilizers science, and sustainable agriculture. Good publication record in peer-reviewed journals, considering the candidate’s career stage. Ability to prepare scientific reports, deliverables, and high-quality publications. Experience in laboratory work, experimental planning, data analysis, and co-supervision of Master’s and/or PhD students. Strong communication skills, teamwork spirit, and motivation to contribute to applied research with industrial relevance in fertilizer development and customization. The position is hosted by the Multi-energy System Planning and Operation Research Group at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The research will focus on the modelling, optimization, and operation of AI+Energy systems, integrated energy systems, green hydrogen, ship and port energy systems, and energy-intensive infrastructures such as data centres. The research group is led by Assistant Professor Zhengmao Li and focuses on multi-energy system optimization, AI-driven energy management, green hydrogen integration, and sustainable maritime energy systems. The position will also benefit from the group’s ongoing research activities and collaborations, and will provide opportunities to work with academic and industrial partners in Finland and internationally. Your role and goals In this position, your doctoral research will focus on developing AI-based and quantum-inspired methods for the modelling, optimization, and operation of sustainable energy systems. The main application area will be green maritime energy systems, especially ship and port energy systems with integrated electricity, heat, hydrogen, storage, and flexible loads. Your main tasks will include: Developing mathematical, data-driven, and AI-based models for sustainable multi-energy systems. Designing optimization and decision-making methods for system planning, scheduling, and operation. Exploring quantum-inspired optimization methods for selected energy-system problems. Applying the developed methods to case studies related to ship and port energy systems, green hydrogen, smart grids, or other energy-intensive infrastructures. Implementing algorithms and simulation models using Python, MATLAB, Julia, or other suitable tools. Analysing simulation and project data, and validating the developed methods through practical case studies. Preparing scientific publications for international journals and conferences.
